The question is of morality, apparently. Knowingly taking a powerful steroid that for some reason isn’t illegal. It seems a bit stupid to me but I hate Wiggins so I hope he gets slaughtered.

The story has been out there a while alright but I think most observers expected the MPs report to be a whitewash job and exonerate Wiggins totally. They've done the opposite which is a shock.

Why is it the MPs that have done this report, anyway? Aren't they meant to be concerned with... running the country or something? As big an issue as drugs in sports are, it doesn't feel like it's really something they need to get involved with.

Wiggins received a knighthood for his sporting achievements and knighthoods are very political.

The main reason though would be that he was part of Olympic teams and public funding is provided to British Olympians.

Wiggins has said he 100% is not a cheat.

Which sounds exactly like the sort of thing a 100% cheat would say...

Getting accused of tax avoision too, whose wife did he shag to get all this to drop on him at once :lol:

In Formula One, there is always a culture of studying the rule book and pushing to the absolute limit what you are allowed to do. Sounds to me like Team Sky and Wiggins also did this, and didn't go a millimetre over the line.

That's exactly what top sports teams/people should be doing and if the governing bodies don't like it they can change the rules to make things like therapeutic exemptions illegal.

i think its more nuanced than that. if someone is a professional athlete, but they have asthma and therefore are suffering in their personal life and need a medical intervention (but may have beneficial side effects) it seems a bit harsh to outlaw that. its actually an ethical issue - if the doctor is prescribing medicine that is not needed then theyre morally and legally in the wrong.

The rules are the rules so if he hadn't broken the rules then fine. However, he seemed to mention that he took the asthma medication to make a level playing field. Surely the point of sport is to not have a level playing field, in that the people who are built best for the sport and train hardest will succeed. I'm gooseberry fool at football, but that's because there's not a single position that I don't have serious physical, technical, or tactical deficiencies in. That's just sport...

I said it in the Froome thread a while ago. I think they way they take their "asthma medicine" is cheating.

They are like wah! im out of breath when i cycle fast, i must have asthma, give me medicine!

News flash - everyone gets out of breath when they cycle fast, the medicine you take that allows you to get less out of breath makes you a cheater.

There has been some proper science done by scientists that suggest that top athletes are more likely to be asthmatic.

Honestly at this point I say just legalise all doping and have super human olympics/competitions

F1 has a rule book? It can often resemble such a farce that i thought they just kinda made things up as they go.

I think Sky have been hung up their own PR efforts in the past. They made a big show about being a clean team and their attention to detail.

If everything was above board then why hide the TUE in the first place? Details of it didn't emerge for until well after the tour.

On the subject of attention to details this is a team that prides itself on leaving no stone unturned with their massively detailed guide to handwashing being the prime example. They transport the riders mattresses around over the course of the race to help their sleep is another example. All this effort into making sure everything is tip top but apparently the team doctor never thought to make a backup of the contents of his laptop containing the medical records of the teams top rider? And there isn't a paper trail proving beyond all doubt just what was in the jiffy bag? It's a story that's hard to have much faith in.
