Seriously guys, who cares what other people think about you. They must have pretty shitty lives to have to judge others on what they're doing to make themselves feel better.

People judge others all the time, it's human nature. If you see some finely suited male in a Lambo and another, similarly aged man skating alongside you're going to make snap judgements on what they do/ are like.

strawberry float sakes. Staydead is right. What's the big deal?

This, don't listen to them FFF.

I used to have a skateboard when I was younger but then moved up to extreme pogo sticks...

:D

It is honestly the most fun and enjoyable thing I've ever done in terms of sport/ exercise. Unfortunately I ended up upgrading from a smaller one, to one that could clear 7ft, and I fractured my ankle on it. :(

It's never really healed up correctly so now I don't do it anymore, but oh how I miss it. These sort of sports are great because it's just you setting your own goals, going at your own pace, no stupid points, no teams, just you and a goal.

A less blurry, but longer example of extreme pogo...

Cool share, thanks. I didn't even know extreme pogoing was a thing. And seems you're not the only Canadian big on helmets.

I used to skate. Sometimes I'd skate to school. Now I've moved back to my hometown there's loads of kids skating, probably because we campaigned for years to get a skatepark, which eventually got built. My band was on an album that was sold to fund it. It was a big cult thing here and had some fun times.

I still sucked though. It was something to do with friends other than football, and it wasn't so competitive.

I dunno maybe it's something I'll do for a laugh one day. Brother knicked my deck and my trucks though (I think they were Tensure or something), as he does with most things, so it's hard to justify the outlay on good bits. I'd rather get a bike but, come to think of it, a skateboard is a pretty inexpensive and lightweight way to get around. Shame it can be pretty dangerous especially on the road. I wouldn't make fun of a grown man skateboarding. I'd probably be a bit jel. A long board is probably somehow more acceptable because it's bigger and more manly or some gooseberry fool.

Thanks guys! Going to pick my board up next weekend and can't wait to get started. Seen loads of similar boards for a bit cheaper but the Penny ones seem coolest.
Anyway I don't look my age at all so don't think I'd get judged in that way but I wouldn't care about getting judged anyway. Just do what you want to do if it makes you happy right!

What a trite load of egocentric bollocks. Of course he's going to draw judgement. When you get praised or thanked, do you turn around and go "strawberry float you, who cares what you think!"? No, you lap it up, especially since it won't happen to you very often. Peoples opinions of you aren't invalidated simply because you don't like the content.

Skateboards are cool though. Electric ones, exponentially cooler.

It takes balls to ride about on a skateboard mate, for a few reasons.
You could have picked a worse hobby, so knock yourself out. Hopefully not literally.

I could nearly kickflip when I was 13. Tried getting back into it when I was around 20, but falling off seemed to hurt way more than it did as a kid. Had a shot on a mate's longboard a while ago though, they're pretty awesome for cruising about the streets.

I've got a skateboard from when I was a teenager, never really got into it though. Wish I had, was considering the other day whether to dust it off and have a go at learning properly, but I'm not sure how or where I could do that without looking like a right tit. It's a bit like the playing the violin - painful and embarrassing until you get really good.

Then I could skateboard to work at the toy soldier factory and never grow up.

Huh. When I was in London the other week we were passed by two people on roller blades. I commented to the gf that I couldn't take anyone seriously who turned up to work on roller blades. Hell, even when I'm cycling to work now I am very conscious that I'm riding a mode of transport that's basically for 12-year-old boys. I want a t-shirt that says "I have a car, I am a proper person..."

I did get a skateboard after the whole Back to the Future craze but never got very good on it. I probably shouldn't have got such a massive one - it really was quite hard to control. I had probably badgered my parents for two or three consecutive birthdays/Christmases to get that thing. :fp:

I still have a pair of good quality K2 roller blades, I used to use them almost every day when I was in Jr. High school, they are fun but they can be very inconvenient because you always have to take them off when you want to actually go in somewhere, like stores.

By the way, a skateboard is a terrible mode of transport. Going down a hill, full speed, you might think "man this is awesome, I'll be at work in no time." And then your board goes over a tiny stone, and causes you to fall off and break things.
