Unless they're now delivering Sky Sports down broadband like BT or something, there's no technical reason the old box can't receive Sky Sports.

I assume this means they will just bump by the price of the overall sky sports package.

The TV auctions are going up soon. Hopefully both have realised paying £10m per match is just ridiculous.

The biggest losers here could be the premier league.

I sub to the full Sky Sports package but have no intention of subbing to BT as well, so will be keeping an eye out to see how they work the increase. My guess is customers will have to opt in to add the channels as opposed to it being given away with a suitable price hike added in.

Unfortunately I think the bidding process has been changed, with more broadcast slots, to try and get Amazon/Google interested in bidding for rights.
We could end up having to subscribe to BT, Sky and a streaming service to get all the available matches. :dread:

At least this deal means BT will soon work with Sky multiroom right?

This freedom of choosing where to get your football fix is working out so well!

It could have worked out well when they broke the Sky monopoly. Unfortunately it just turned into a Sky monopoly with Setanta/ESPN/BT getting a few games. There’s no competition or consumer choice (legally anyway ;) ), if you want to watch the games you have to pay Sky and BT.

Don’t see Amazon, Netflix or Google joining. There’s always talk, but it’s probably Scudamore leaking to the media. A few years ago it was leaked Bein and Discovery were interested. Then before that it was Disney.

Amazon paid £10m per year for ATP UK rights. They paid £37m per year to show 10 NFL matches in America. They’d have to pay three times as much as that to show 10 premier league games. Is it worth it for them?

I know I'm in a very slim minority here but I think the current pricing is quite fair. I watch multiple matches every month for what works out as cheaper than a day out to one match a month. I prefer actually being there for Derby games, but for other games I prefer the comfort of my own home.
