Got a letter in the mail today telling me they'll give me 35% off. I'm also seeing the advert on Sky channels every commercial break. So far then I've been offered 30%, 35%, 50%, and a 60% that never was.

Just got a call from Sky about my Fibre Pro sub, turns out my 12 month minimum is over so they offered me £10 a month off to lock in for the next 12 months, seen as I wasn't planning on leaving as their service is excellent I have accepted as it is free money.

Woop. :D

Sky phoned me up today. Well, you can't deny they're persistent.

'Look, I'm going to be straight...we really don't want you to leave...as you're a Sky broadband customer, you can keep the 240 free to air channels, the HD, and all the Sky+ features free of charge.'

Well...I could hardly say no. Saved me £200 on a Freesat box.

I'm going to ask the retentions team for a pay rise instead of my manager next year...

Has anyone managed to cancel their Sky subscription and pay the £10.50 or so that they charge to use your Sky HD box as a free sat box? My Chromecast came today and I want to cancel Sky but use Freesat.

Are you a Sky broadband or Sky Talk customer too? Tell them you want to cancel the whole lot and there's a possibility, like happened with me, that they'll get in contact with you and waive the £10 for the Sky+ features.

If you don't care about Sky+, you could just pull your card out of the box and see what channels you still receive. For example you'll still be able to watch BBC1, 2, ITV, Channel 4 etc. in HD. The box itself still functions with no subscription.

I have a NowTV box and use catchup rather than live + recording. I also use a calendar on mine and my wifes phone to track what we want to watch which works brilliantly as an alternative to paying anything. It also means signal is no longer an issue as I stream it over the web.

You get a lot of stuff blocked that's on Freeview which is annoying. Quest for Wheeler Dealers and Dave for everything for a start :x

No I don't have broadband or Sky Talk. It's just the recording ability I don't want to lose, chances are catchup would be fine but I just want to make sure before taking the plunge to only using solely on demand TV.

I'm considering leaving Sky for Virgin when we move in a couple of weeks.

I've been with them for about 5 years now and my bills since then have gone up from about £65 a month to over £90 a month. Granted we've got Normal Sky and Sky Sports, Sky Fiber, Line Rental and a Phone with free calls evening and weekends (never used) but it's mainly been my laziness for never switching and just allowing the monthly cost go up and up.

Could do the Big Daddy Bundle from Virgin, with the addition of Sky Movies, plus HD channels, internet that's about 5 times quicker fiber than what I've got with SKY, Unlimited anytime calls. Seems like a no brainer.

Though phoning up SKY might be able to wrangle them all the way down especially with being a member for 5 years.

Sorted Sky out for our place last night, broadband, phone line and that 270 channel thing for £34 a month. There's a deal over the phones according to the fella I spoke to last night.

If signing up to companies like Sky I find the best deals are usually found through Quidco or TopCashback. Current offer is something like £155 back and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4/Tesco voucher.

So I just went onto their site and cancelled Sky Sports under 'My Package' and I noticed I could do the same with Movies too, so I confirmed Sports first, went back to the 'My Package' page to do the same with Movies and they had removed the option to do so.

Can't have me cancel two packages at once!

They really are a joke.

Get ready to be bombarded with all sorts of literature now. The amount of emails, phone calls and letters I've received from them the past month has been unbelievable.

I don't think you can make two changes to your account separately within 31 days.

If I were to call up I would be able to cancel Sports and Movies together, I've done it before.
