If you go onto Sky Player on PC and go into account settings, there's a bit for promo codes.

If you enter

XBOX1MONTHFREE

You get to watch the live channels free for a month (in line with your sky subscription package) - works pretty well.

Just watching Clone Wars on Demand and it's working great, no delay, no buffering and decent enough picture. Awesome stuff. :)

If you don't cancel this then when one month elapses they WILL charge you £9.95 a month until you do.

I've not setup any payment stuff on the Sky Player which it implies you need to to subscribe even if you have a normal Sky Subscription though I may be wrong so hopefully they can't charge once this expires. Having said that they say you can pay £5 a month for Sky Player Multiroom which lets you watch whatever channels you're subscribed to on the sky player live, depending on how much use I get from it this next month I might be tempted as won't really miss an extra fiver.

I owuld be too scared of it all going onto my dads sky account, I bet it's all linked in someway!

Sky Player, launched this week on the Xbox 360, may come to the PS3, according to Sky.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Sky's director of On Demand Griff Parry said: "It [Sky Player on PS3] may very well happen in the future."

The battle lines have been drawn in the war for console-owning TV watchers.

Sony's PS3 currently offers access to the BBC's iPlayer for free. The Sky Player is available to Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers who also have a Sky subscription.

When asked if Sky was actively trying to make available the Sky Player on PS3, Parry replied: "I can talk generally about our desire to extend to any device that supports a good quality experience to project the content. The PS3 is clearly a device where that is possible. And so it may very well happen in the future. Having said that, we're very happy to be working with Xbox for the time being."

Sky player uses microsoft Silverlight technology though doesnt it? I'm not sure that'd be possible on the PS3, although obviously a different sort of stream technique could be used.

Sky have course teamed up with PlayStation before, so it's not exactly a surprise. By the end of 2010 I can see ITV (if they're not dead), Channel 4 & Sky all doing something comparable to iPlayer on PS3.

Quicker access and no buffering times maybe?

Maybe I was a little hasty in forming such a strong opinion, it is afterall an extra and is pretty useful tbh.

the picture quality is pretty good [I cant tell the diff between the stream and a regular DVD tbh] and thats on my 42" HDTV but I'm no expert. I can pause, rewind, fast forward with ease and apart from a 10s econd add at the start of each movie, its perfect. The live TV streaming is great too, its sharper than my regular cable picture and I like the little cinema with ure avatar! :D . The only draw back is the latency, as its about 2mins behind the cable but thats not that much of a problem.

All in all, its made a HUGE difference to my current living situation. Out of the blue I have sky sports and Movies ON DEMAND that start when I want them to, I can't really complain. Its all very slick too, technology is amazing these days!

Shame i won't be using it as it still isn't available to download.

How very British of them to "launch" it like this.

That's a fairly sweeping generalism. For people like myself, who have Sky's unlimited broadband service and an Xbox in a room with no Sky, it's a godsend.

I can't understand all the completely negative comments - were people just expecting Microsoft and Sky to give them all of Sky's channels for free?

It's the fact you have to pay for gold subscription + Sky Player, you do not get all the channels and if you get the sports channels you can't even watch all the events.

Well I think Sky's a bit of a rip off anyway so I'm not surprised at all by the costs.

Even so, for what I want to use it for - on demand movies - it's not costing me anything extra so I'm perfectly happy. Well I would be if I had access to the service yet.

Because with the basic package, you get very little extra over freeview apart from some crappy low budget channels that I never watch anyway. I also think it's a bit of a con that you have to pay extra on subscription to have multiroom. Sure, buy the hardware but why on earth do you have to pay extra on a monthly basis?

My gf has Tiscali and it seems slightly better value. She pays £30 a month for TV, broadband and telephone line rental. I also like the fact they give you a ton of free on demand content and catch up TV. Sky seems a bit old fashioned in comparision. Even the menu system looks primitive next to my freeview. I would rather have everything on demand to be honest so if there is something I want to watch I can do so when I want.

I watch very little TV and wouldn't bother with Sky or anything if it was up to me. My flatmate wants the Sky and pays the subscription so I'm not complaining about that. :) But when his subscription expires we might get rid of it. Having on demand movies is the only thing that would really change my mind, which is why I'm really frustrated that I can't access it yet.

This is just my opinion, basically because I'm not really a fan of TV. I suppose if you are then the Sky+ features and that might seem better value.

But you already had to pay for a Gold Subscription, and no matter that you also have to pay for the content on it, the addition of Sky Player is an addition in what you are able to use on Live with a Gold sub.

Its actually pretty insane for you to expect them to give this content away.

I'm right in saying that if you are already a Sky customer of any kind, you get something out of this for no extra money, right? It might not be much, but you do get something. If you have multiroom then you get all the content you currently subscribe to that is available through Sky Player...

...exactly how is that ripping anyone off?
