My family situation:
We have a nice HD tv and Sky HD box in the lounge. We have Multiroom, but the tv in the bedroom which picks up Sky is a 14" VCR/TV combi and before today being relegated by the Mrs to watch the footie (or something similarly entertaining) was horrible.
My Xbox is in the downstairs middle room running on a 27" LCD via VGA. It also has the luxury of surround sound. Our house is a bit of a black hole when trying to pick up a terrestrial signal, but this is a redundant point anyway as the country is due to go completely digital soon. In other words, the Xbox tv recieves no signal at all.

So, baring in mind I get this Sky watching lark for free, I am immensely impressed. When I first sorted it out I watched Revista La Liga no issues whatsoever, then looked in on some of the movies available. Started Eagle Eye for experimentation sake, and liked the fact I could resume playback from where I left it when I quit.

As uptake increases, Microsoft WILL resolve connection issues. It's had too much publicity to risk embarrassing themselves. I plan to watch my beloved Liverpool tonight on it, so we'll see how the service copes then.

In summary though, today I gained Sky on a much better setup for nothing. Really can't be anything other than happy about that.

(I appreciate there are peeps here with circumstances much different to my own).

I know I don't but I don't understand why you need to pay on top of paying for something else. It just seems unfair.

Is anyone who downloaded the client, but still doesn't have it showing up in the Video dashboard, able to use it yet?

I'm still getting an error code.

Iagree with you three. Dumb as strawberry float and eriosuly limiting the uptake.

Only being available for those with a Sky sub is obvious to me and it's thus a nice bonus. Having to be Gold though? Stupid.

I don't currently have it though., hope they fix it.

Same for me. I downloaded it yesterday and watched Revisita la liga on it earlier. Just getting error codes now though.

didn't realize this was up until i found it while looking for Last FM.

was talking to a mate earlier about Face-book, Twitter and Last FM and telling him where they were on the menus when i noticed Skyplayer next to Zune in the video marketplace. a short download later and i was in.

i like the easy menu system and the avatar sitting watching a show is fun, especially being able to get it to make emoticon expressions. very nice how you can move the view around the room and see the TV on the wall behind you etc. i know the above is not essential to watching Sky, but it adds to the fun of using it.

i'm quite impressed with this on 360, the quality of picture is very good and it suffered no problems in streaming the video.

while i can't think of when i'd use this (i have a Sky box into the same tv as 360) apart from showing others, it gets a big thumbs up from me for those who will use it.

I haven't had any problems at all with it today, in fact I was just watching Axe something or other on national geographic!

I guess it really needs more channels and functionality to appeal to a wider audience, I still think my idea that instead of subscribing to sky sports, you could pay a nominal fee to watch a game, like 400 points or something.

If you have downloaded the client but cant find it, try quick launch/ latest downloads.

Unfortunately the contracts which Sky has for football are generally very strict. It's unlikely that they have secured the rights to sell games on an individual basis (remember Premiership Plus and how much of a giant FAIL it was?).

Also as a footnote, I wouldn't recomment this service to anyone who is deaf/needs subtitles, because as usual Microsoft forgot about you :fp:

Wasn't the main reason Premiership Plus finished the fact that by law Sky couldn't hold all the rights to show premierleague matches?

Can't believe this hasn't been brought up yet.

Well I got it working this morning and i must say it's fantastic.

I don't have Sky at my place but I used my parents sky login and they have all the channels plus multiroom so it works fine.

You can stream quite a few channels live, including sky sports and sky movies 1 and 2.

The on demand stuff is great as well. At least 300 movies, that start staight away.

The picture quality is impressive as well. Obviously not quite as good as if you had a sky box, but its still good.

So yeah, very impressed. :D

I didn't realise that even if you have the broadband/multi room required, some of it is STILL charged. I fancied watching Ross Kemp in Afghanistan because I missed it when it was on TV so selected it. This where it gave me the option to RENT each episod for £1. Lol fk off m8. I already pay sky £80+ a month.

The whole skyplayer was down for me lastnight, thats right, not even the laptop could open any sky website to do with skyplayer! :x

They better have this all fixed by the weekend. I'd be inclined to blame SKY for this rather than Microsoft, afterall, the xbox websites where all running perfectly as was live, just anything to do with sky was suddenly borked lastnight. :x
