That was also my issue with having all the emulators on my laptop. I got too excited and downloaded all the best games for all the emulators of various consoles and now I'm not interested in playing any of them. Turns out you can have too much of a good thing.

No idea how easy it is to set the thing up yet, but I'll look into it in more detail this week.

I'll still blatantly put down a pre-order if I can though

The Pi is ridiculously easy. I'm not massively techy and managed just fine.

The only chink in its armour at the moment (for me) is the Amiga support isn't as good, and I've not quite managed to launch the Amiga stuff properly yet. The rest is absolutely fine, though.

The one issue I do have is I got a bit ROM-happy and stuck tonnes (thousands...) of titles on there. I'm now considering wiping it and starting again, being more judicious about the games I include.

Thank you both, looks brilliant

I can see why they've not bothered with Bomberman 2 if the thing only supports two controllers.

It's easily done especially when you can download entire software catalogues in minutes.

I think the sad truth is that these games are pretty much just a novelty now. Not something you actually sit down and play start to finish. Possible exception being LTTP. I mean put it this way, if you have Super Mario and Zelda downloaded and 100% playable right now on your laptop and you cant be arsed playing them, are you really going to play them all that much more if someone charges you 80 quid for a tiny snes that also has them on it?

I think I would. I'd at least plan on it. I have a big load of ROMs, but only play them for Retro Monday. The Nes mini does get used to play games on there though. I'd say you're spot on for 99% of people who'll buy this though.

It's is my intention to play every game to completion (well get to the end at least) on the snes mini. Well maybe nit gouls ans ghosts. Some stonkers on there. I can see mario kart alone being jn high rotation and those pads being a big nostalgia factor jn playing on it over my emulators.

I can even hang it on the back of my icade and play it through the screen on that :toot:

Well you're probably right for a lot of people (and who knows, maybe you'll be right about me too) but I have played most of the games on my NES Mini way more than I've played any of my emulators, so I'm confident that I'll invest as much, if not more, time on the SNES Mini as there are lots more games on that that I actually want to play (Earthbound, LTTP and Super Metroid being the standouts for me).

Of course, it could easily for the other way and I get distracted by something else shiny and it becomes a dust collector, but at least it'll be a good looking dust collector  :datass:

I think this will be the point that I finally part with my original SNES - it's been in the attic for years, 2 controllers and no games, just in case..... of what I don't know.

Not sure I agree with retro games being a novelty like, the machine perhaps but not the games. I have finished 41 games so far this year and only 3 of them were on a system newer than the PlayStation. In fact I'm replaying Super Mario World right now and intend to play Yoshi's Island for the first time in the near future.

True, but as someone on a dedicated games forum you are not representative of the wider and broader audience. I have fallen into the ennui of emulating a lot of stuff but spending more time configuring them than actually playing them, with the exception of Gran Turismo PSP on my laptop which is great for a quick burst. I thought about building a retropi but realised I would never properly play anything beyond a quick dive every now and again.

Absolutely, of course I will. :shifty:

I now have 3 on order. One for me and one for each of my two brothers as they didn't get an order on in time.

Yeah so is mine, but I'm guessing that's because it won't be complete until they ship it out. Maybe?

Just saw some absolute cretin on Amazon is listing a NES mini for £450.

Utter banana splits, I'm guessing the same will happen with the SNES mini.

Listed mine for £600 and it has 26 people watching 8-)

How are Nintendo with preorders? I've got one in with them and I'm wondering if that definitely means I have it.

I think I'd be like that, too. I'd much rather have, say, fifty cool games to play then access to thousands that I'll never touch. I tend to skim around doing not-much-at-all if there is too much choice :-).

I had the same thing with the Pi. I actually ran down the massive list of ROMs I had in a folder and deleted the ones I didn't at least recognise. Helped cut down on the scrolling to oblivion aspect.

Little tip - when ROM dumpers test a ROM or the community plays it and knows it works, they put a [!] in the file name. That's not a warning, it means "tested and working". So if you have multiple copies of ROMs with slightly different filenames, I choose to keep the PAL and US versions only and if there is a [!] I keep that and delete the others.

Also the weird ROM hacks with swapped characters and other weird gooseberry fool are sometimes hilarious. Like someone ported Sonic 1 to the NES. It was actually alright.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Not sure people having multiple pre-orders or 'back-ups' really helps things either.

Understandable when you consider how Amazon messed up their pre-orders so close to the launch of NES Mini.

People are selling nes mini's for hundreds? I might have to stockpile some famicom mini's while I'm still in Tokyo.
