I've been following it over at gbatemp and the prevailing theory is that a finalised official update to the hack will appear over the weekend. There are already versions available but they can be a bit involved right now. The official update should streamline the process considerably.

Instructions and links for updated version of hakchi.

Not final update yet but works fine. Only USA Roms for the time being too it would seem. Gba temp forums have a continuingly updated compatibility list although non working Roms seem to be in the minority.

God I'd forgotten how awful wall jumping in Metroid was :dread:

Just got the Spazer, Wave Beam, Grapple Beam and Reserve Tank.

The later GBA games had such massive QoL improvements though. The fact that the map in this doesn't differentiate between collected and uncollected power ups will forever prevent it from being a perfect Metroid experience.

Dunno if it's slight input lag or what but I had real trouble consistently wall jumping in this version compared to the one on the 3DS VC. It got really annoying.

I managed to wall jump fine. I had to because I'd forgotten I'd turned off my high-jump boots. Don't know if that made it any easier.
Grappling though :dread:

I find grappling way easier than wall jumping.

Superb, thanks for sharing that.

Yeah me and a mate tried it in 2 player last night and we couldn't get more than about a minute into the first stage before getting game over.

Also, what's the best place for SNES ROMs these days :shifty:

Edit - Are the download links in that YouTube video actually working for anyone? If I try the download link for RC4 it gives me a 404 page, and if I try the homepage of the site then it just doesn't work at all.

Just make sure you've got US/NTSC ROMS as EU/PAL ones need to be converted to work on it. Not a huge problem, but it means some EU only titles will need some extra work to use.

RC4 was pulled earlier today, presumably because RC5 was uploaded. That's what I've used and it was flawless.

Here's a compiled and working version of RC5.

http://opfer.me/fu/hakchi2-2.20rc5.rar

1. Extract the files from there and run the Hackchi executable. (You may get an AV warning, but mine scanned it fine and then ran it).

2. Make sure the SNES Classic Mini is connected to your PC via USB and choose "Dump Kernal" from the "Kernal" menu and follow the simple instructions. This creates a backup of the system in a folder called "Dump" inside the Hackchi directory. I'd recommend making another copy somewhere else as it's what allows you to flash it back to normal if something happens.

3. Once done go back into the Kernal menu and choose "Flash Custom Kernal". This essentially uploads a custom firmware to the system and allows you to add new games.

4. Once that's done you can start adding ROMS. Click the "Add more games" button and select your SNES ROM files. They will then appear in the list. The right hand side lets you fill in information about the game. You can browse for box art on your PC, or click the "Google" button to search for stuff online.

5. Once you are happy click the "Sychronise selected games with NES/SNES Mini". This will transfer over any games with a ticked checkbox. Keep the "Original Games" checkbox ticked so that it leaves the 21 pre-installed games there. The SNES Mini should be on when you do this and the screen will change to say "Hackchi". Once the system has finished synching with the SNES Mini, it will restart and return to the main screen (It may ask you to choose the language again the first time around). You will find your added games in a folder to the left of Contra III. All your savestates, rewinds and game saves should be intact.

Be aware that you will need to leave space on the SNES Mini for savestates, rewinds and saves, so don't fill it up too much. I've got just over 100mb left on mine which is fine so far.
Also, not every game works, or works perfectly. I've not came across any major issues so far, but I have seen graphical glitches on Lemmings and Krusty's Super Fun House.

Oh and Stunt Race FX, MegaMan X2/X3 and Doom all work so the additional SuperFX emulation is put to good use.

Enjoy!

Cheers. I found a link to RC4 on Reddit and have just used that to upload a few games as a test.

Is there anything I need to do to switch over to RC5? Is it best to restore the original Kernel first?

I would assume so, yeah. Best to be safe.

Tried out RC5 and seems ok so far.

Need to start looking up the release dates of games I add though, otherwise if I sort them be release date all my newly uploaded ones are considered earliest as they default to 1900.

Have been getting 3D boxart from here for things I add,
http://www.theoldcomputer.com/game-box- ... /3D-Boxart
Haven't decided if I'll stick with that yet, but some of the boxart that Hakchi finds for you looks a bit stretched out when you view it on the Mini.

Yeah I've been looking at stuff like that myself. I'll probably spend an evening at some point fixing it up with that, at least for the added games.

No probs. :) I did an internal fist pump when I read about the joypad restart ;)

Just a wee note on when I did this, I had to switch to the USB cable that came with the snes mini rather than the pishters one I had lying around (that was fine to power it) in order for the pc to recognise it.

Played it last night on a friends, and yeah it was fun. But when I have a SNES Emulator on my tablet, it's not liked it rocked my world or anything. Plus, the whole wired controller issue...
