Well this is pretty good. Couldn't see a topic

Played from a third-person perspective, it is a tactical shooter with stealth elements. When players kill an enemy using a sniper rifle from a long distance, the X-Ray kill cam system will activate, in which the game's camera follows the bullet from the sniper rifle to the target, and shows body parts, bones or internal body organs being broken or ruptured by the bullet. The system has also been expanded to include shrapnel kills, melee kills and stealth kills.

The game's artificial intelligence is improved, with enemies being able to react to players' action more responsively. When an enemy is killed, other enemies will begin actively looking for them. The player is equipped with a pair of binoculars, which shows players where the enemies are and what weapons they are carrying. The game features the "officers" rank. Killing the officer as early as possible will lead his army to retreat, while killing him by the end of a mission will significantly increase the level's difficulty. Players can place traps and use corpses as booby traps.[4] The game also features night missions, in which players can remove light sources to hide their presence

It's got it's flaws (horrid tutorial system explains nothing [expect it's built for people that know the game], quite tiny hud text) but it's undeniable fun.

Massive sand box (I think all the AI is populated from the begging and patrolling/acting?) - and a surprising amount of tools. Some of the gore is horrible but it's all satisfyingly visercal.

Spent 2-2.5 hours doing the first level and I was never bored. I got VERY grumpy near the start as it didn't explain much (ammo types, cover, sound, alerts/searching etc) plus there's awful checking pointing (my first combat/alarm it went wrong, but kept check pointing me back to the point I triggered the bad situation...save often).

All in all a satisfying play through - it's forgiving in mechanics (e.g. enemies are on the mini map, but you have to "spot" them to show on hud) so that it lets you play the game, rather than putting up barriers to letting you get on with it. It knows it's a game and that people want to play/enjoy it and doesn't make it hard.

Here is me taking out optional objective 2 - in a chain reaction that takes out 3 trucks and everyone else in the base. (It's before I realised I had supressed ammo...so went in loud and proud)

Later on I was on the other side of the Island and being a bit more stealth. Blew up a car at the front of a village to lure out guards/make them look away - snuck in and stealth killed optional target 2. Left a little present on his body for the returning guards - was already off to the next target by time they returned and started investigating the body.

Found the main evil Nazi and decided to kill with a bit of style...

Unfortunately I hadn't read my briefing right - I needed to examine his body, and every gauard left in the area was running towards the huge boom I'd just made...whoops!

Just finished the first map - took me 3.44hrs. Yes, I play very slow and very stealthy.

I did also both optional side missions and didn't die once. Lots of sneaky melee kills - brutal stuff. The first map is huge - tons of choice, lots of emergent gameplay. I definitely think this is an improvement on the previous game in the series. Okay, so I was playing the easiest setting, but still for me it required patient observation, good target marking and a willingness to pick your moments carefully.

Incredibly satisfying. Very happy with how this game has worked out. You can more or less play it how you would like and the game can accommodate that.

I still wish Rebellion could get in some decent artists to give the whole presentation a good seeing to, but it all works - on the PS Pro, at least.

Now, 9 Massive Campaign maps to go, the first DLC mission and three more DLC missions to follow.

Tremendous value for genuine lovers of slow, sneaky stealth gaming. It's so much more than gory bullet time executions.

8.5/10
Technically flawed in part, but solidly stealthy.

I've always fancied getting a Sniper Elite game but for one reason or another have failed to do so. This one looks great and I like the sandbox approach-it-how-you-want style, really appeals to me.

As soon as there's a price drop I will jump on this like a freshly pulled grenade.

Forgot to mention that even though it took me a total time of 3.44hrs to do that first map, the game does allow you to save anywhere, anytime. You can simply pick up from exactly where you left off if you remember to save before exiting your current session. The nice thing about this, apart from the fact that not everyone has several hours to spare in one chunk, is that you can play each map as a series of objectives and do them all in your own sweet time over a variety of sessions. The game also constantly autosaves in the background as you play, so if you accidently get yourself shot in the head you're never too far back from where you last left off. All your play stats are tracked and recorded and you can review your performance in many categories/challenges at any time.

You really should support the Devs on this - it's clearly a work of from dedicated people committed to what they do.

Is this better than Sniper Elite 3?

I bought that and got a refund on steam as its "open map" was just corridors of rock formations that didn't really give you really decisions

If you want a truly 'open world' game don't get this game. SE4 is not one big endless open world. There's a start point and end point to each map, but tons of stuff to do between them and you can do it all in whatever order you want, across the entirety of each level's map. And the maps for each of the missions are very big (much bigger than anything in SE3).

Well I've only done the first map but it was a compartively large Island (2 hours to explore and find all targets/side-targets)

The "restraint" came from verticality - some cliffs etc can't be climbed/dropped from and you had to find the right way down - but the entire map was explorable.

You start at a default part of the map, and at the end had a choice of extraction points to get to.

My understanding was that this games were kind of jankey but offers an experience that no other game really does, so attracts a pretty large following of people who love slow war style combat.

Always missed seeing anything about these games until now and it looks good, but I'm deep in hitman world at the moment and then it will be Zelda :(

I wouldn't go with janky - but it's clearly not an AAAAAAAAAAAAAA title budget. It's still well made and presented.

I want more to buy it so I have more to talk to :(

I enjoyed Sniper Elite 2 as well as the first Nazi Zombie Army game, however when it came to 3 I'd reached my enjoyment limit of what the series has to offer. I'll probably go back to 3 at some point but I'm in no rush to do so.

Okay cool, yeah I didn't expect it to be ARMA style open world but my last experience from SE3 (the very first mission) was that you couldn't find different routes on the map to reach your target, but was all actually just: "go down this corridor of rocks and only climb up these obvious ones" rather than "here are lots of paths that are not really obvious and offer different experiences depending on your play style"

SE3 was a let down compared to SE2 for some reason, even though I can almost guarantee it was even less open than SE3 and more structured.

Cheers though, I might give it a go and see how I get on.

Thanks!

Didn't think the secodn map was a good - a bit smaller - but around one village, so not as much sight lines for sniping so more stealthy infiltration. Managed to get about 80% through without being spotted/setting the guards off which was nice.

Scouted out and Sniped the Radio Operator (using sound cover) from 1/3rd of the way across the map - through a small window to his room - no one found him

And managed to take out lots of other guards in silence or using "accidents"

You should buy it now.
It's really good fun and the devs have put a fair bit of love into it.
