PostSo I Now Have A Galaxy S3...
by jpatez » Sun Sep 16, 2012 12:56 pm

After the dissapointment (yet again) with the reveal of the iPhone 5, I decided to go Android and get myself a S3.

Now as this is my first Android phone I would like some tips in to how to make the most out of it.

I got myself a 32gb Pebble Blue and I already have some apps and games installed, (Agent Dash, Angry Birds Free, Amazon App Store, Asphalt 7, Barclays Banking, Battle.net Authenticator, BBC News, Best Of Cracked Vol.1, Drippler GS3, Easy Phone Sync, Facebook, Flipboard, Flixster, IMDb, Jetpack Joyride, Joystiq, London 2012 Results, Mayhem, My Brickset, Ninja Fishing, Sky News, Steam, Super GNES Lite, Temple Run, The Chive, Whats App & Wow Armoury).

What others do GS3 users recommend? What is rooting? and did I make a good choice?

Thanks in advance.

I shall have a browse later. But with 225 pages to go through can't I have some assistance here?

Stop being a jealous spoilsport.

Personally I've never seen much of a need to root Android devices lately. Most anything/everything I want to do has no need of it. You can install non-Marketplace apps just by enabling an option in the menu. The only real need to root the device is if you want to put custom firmware on it.

He bought an Android phone, so I linked him to the Android thread. Piss off with the fanboy stuff.

Also, this belongs in Ask the Forum.

Rooting isnt hard so you should do it. Its better to be rooted than not rooted. Being able to block ads is one great advantage along with flashing roms and themes of course.

Just ordered myself one of the 16Gb White S3's arriving Tuesday at work courtesy of Dialaphone, and Quidco's £100 cash back. £28.50 per month for 1Gb data, 600 mins and Unlimited texts on Orange

How do I go about porting my existing mobile number (on Virgin) to Orange please?

Just call Virgin, ask for a PAC code and then once you have it call Orange and give it to them. That'll port the number over and end the Virgin contract.

Yeah but now JB has been around for a while it is worth doing as the ROMS now have better performance that stock.

I'm currently running this at the moment on my GNex and Nex7.

AOKP JB Build 4 - http://aokp.co/index.php/releases/_/jb-build-4-r32

Its got some great tweaks for various bits and bobs but speed and battery life is way up on stock. Plus the big bonus is I now have decent backup which is a major failing in all stock roms is the inability to decently backup all apps and user data and be able to apply it back like Titanium can.
