PostSo, I've had my appendix removed

Just come home from hospital today having been rushed in under a 999 call at 3am on Weds morning with intense stomach pains to be greeted with the news that I had Appendicitis. Turns out it had perforated and had seeped puss into my stomach (nice eh?) which caused massive inflammation. 12 hrs later I was 1 Appendix less but with a tender stomach from the operation.

Been signed off work for 7 days and can't drive for 10 days either so currently sitting/lying not very comfortably watching recordings of The Apprentice and BGT whilst feeling sorry for myself

To bring this topic out a bit, anyone here have any stories of emergency surgeries, 999 callouts or the like they want to share?

Hope you have a speedy recovery. Must have been a very scary experience with it all happening in the early hours of the morning. My cousin went through a similar situation but luckily it was in the middle of the day. Get well soon mate. :o

I had a major stomach surgery a couple of months ago and it was ridiculous just how long it took for the pain to subside. Not being able to sit up, bend or rotate my body was annoying and made me appreciate the level of movement I have.

Also, chicks dig scars even more than they dig smiley faces on texts. ;)

This is exactly what happened to me about 2 years ago, except I was in the middle of a shift. Youl feel fine after a god couple of days, but just remember to try and walk about, it helps alot.

Get well soon

I'm really accident prone and had a few hospital funtimes.

Had my first trip in an ambulance last year; got run over by a horse which caused serious damage to my back. Had a spinal board and collar and everything, then when I got to hospital I had to lie there like a tool while about 5 people took my jeans off for an x-ray. Felt like such a twat.

Also broke my finger in 2006 and left it for about a month thinking it would get better :fp: Cue a massive rush to get me surgery so I'd recover before having to do my GCSE exams when I finally went to hospital about it.

Then I fell over and snapped my ankle and took a chunk out of my knee, had a cyst in my back drained and packed every night so it healed, and had my tonsils out.

tl;dr I shouldn't leave the house for the sake of the NHS.

I had a 2/3rds partial gastrectomy back in 2009. Five gastroscopies so far, two of them to cauterise anastomotic ulcers.

Scars 8-)

On the plus side, you don't have to worry about work getting in the way of E3. Every cloud, and all that...

Cheers for the best wishes and yes I am trying to walk around to help

Scary thing was the pain started Tues when I woke and I took myself into A&E only to be sent home 4 1/2 hrs later with some painkillers! As it turned out that didn't turn out to be a fatal error by them but thank God the missus called 999 when she did

Tell you what though, it's not a patch on what women who have emergency c-sections have to go through - my wife's 8 inch scar is testament to that!

Any more stories out there?

Had stomach pain on the sunday, that faded and then it hit me on monday. Went into Hospital same day had it taken out that night.

I've had my appendix removed, lost an index finger (along with the contents of my stomach) when my sleeve got caught in machinery, and had a problem with my spine. It's only thanks to the dedication of the doctors that I'm still going.

I think I'll use this thread just to express my extreme dislike for physiotherapists. Especially the ones that disarm you with their good looks and then put you through actual agony.

I dislocated my knee cap about a year ago whilst playing football (who says exercise is good for you?) and had to be taken to hospital to get it popped back into place.

I also discovered I have a very unfortuante combination at that time. Turns out I have a rather low pain threshold (since I was screaming like a little girl the entire hour and a half between dislocation and popping back in) but I have a rather high tolerance for painkillers. 4 injections of morphine, two canisters of gas and full bottle of liquid Paracetemol through IV drip later, I was still in as much pain as when I started :fp:

Sadly it meant being unable to drive for about 3 and a half weeks. On the plus side it meant I got to work from home for that time :D
Also had to go to Physiotherapy for a few months after that...the exercises they make you do can be rather painful, especially when you're starting out. :(

When I was 7 I almost died. I had intense stomach pain and everything I ate or drank came back out in seconds. Suffice to say it was a pretty shitty few days. Because of this I became dehydrated and starved. Oh and I was also on holiday in deepest darkest France. The doctors thought that I had appendicitis and cut into me. Only instead of an inflamed appendix they found a normal one which they lopped that out anyway, because while they were there.....

Turns out I had a benign tumour in my intestines. The doctors took it out along with 3 feet of my small intestines. I was in a hospital bed for 2 weeks recovering. After being in bed that long I couldn't even walk :fp:

I had an appendix drama almost a year ago this day, but I really don't think you'd want to hear any of it so soon after your own.
