Injuries are a bitch, It is totally devastating when you just cannot exercise due to injury but it is also part and parcel of having a routine. Surely the girl won't leave you just because you've fractured your ankle... like others said, take good care of your diet, follow your physio and try to do whatever you can for the upper body (summer is around the corner anyways)

There is a lot of exercise you can do while seated or laying down, just hit youtube and the internets and its all there. Get yourself some dumbells and cocnentrate on that for now, allow your ankle to heal well and start all over.

I used to wear size 42 jeans when I was 18-19, and managed to get down to size 32 (not uk sizes, anyways I was really fat, double chin and all that) I have sufferred injuries, and had on/off periods with gymming and fitness.... I never went back to that size, I put on a couple of kilograms in the winter until alarm bells start ringing in my head...

Muscle memory also helps, you will regain your form much faster when you have been training regularly for some time.

So you do not need to get so depressed.

Collar Bone

Two Fingers on my right hand (at the same time)

Two Ribs

You'll be back on your feet way before the doctors say you can be.

Most of them are toes/fingers and pussy breaks.

They still count. Collar bone was the worst as there's nothing which can be done other than putting it in a sling.

It was over 10 years ago now. I don't recall any compensation other than the money for the written-off scooter.

I've broke my big toe twice (And now the bones are fused so I can't move it)
Broke my arm and smashed my elbow to bits.
And hunners of fingers/toes.

First time I broke my arm I was about 4, slipped over in homebase. Dad drove me home, I spent the day wailing on the sofa and finally mum took me to A&E pretty much to shut me up. When I did my elbow in, Mum had just got in the shower so I had to wait for her to dry her hair and finish up before going.

Fractured both ankles, right one twice.
Fractured both wrists, left one twice, now it clicks :fp:
Fractured 4 ribs on the right side due to a quad accident.
Broke left arm.
Fractured collar bone.
Broke finger on right hand, dislocated finger on left hand that can still pop out.

I will say I did most of that damage between the ages of 7 and 13, the time I fractured my right wrist I was 17 and I've had too many stitches to even bother keeping count.

hamm sandwich wrote:Last night during my weekly 5 a side football practice I got an almighty kick on my ankle as I was about to unleash a deadly shot and half Eduardo'd myself. After a night of 'I'll sleep on it and hope the swelling goes down' it didn't and after a pointless trip to the walk in centre this morning I was referred to A&E for an x-ray where I was told it was fractured and required a cast. I'm absolutely devastated :( I've never broken a bone before and recently turned my life around through exercise which has helped me lose a lot of weight and meet a great girl. The thought of weeks of recuperation and inactivity is one thing, the fear of regressing to my old ways another.

I really don't know what to do with myself. The fracture is on the outside of my right ankle and as it's not a break the recovery can be a bit more complex and the time involved a bit ambiguous. One minute I'm thinking they'll give me something to reduce the swelling and go home and the next I'm being plastered up and being coached on how to use crutches..

I had only entered the local half marathon yesterday and the doctor I saw told me it could be six months before I can exercise to that level of intensity, I am feeling really low just now.. The guy I made contact with is like half my size and surprisingly unhurt. This upsets all the plans I've made for the next few months

Has anyone here been through something similar? Hopefully you can offer me some encouragement as I'm feeling quite sorry for myself just now. I feel utterly helpless :(

Sorry to hear that Hamm, man, hamman.

I broke my ankle a few years ago (football) and have several pins in my leg. I was out of action for 12 months before I took up running when I recovered. I'm not doing too badly now.

You do need to make an effort with your recovery/physio etc. Physiotherapy is good for the advice but its just as much about what effort you make between sessions.

Secondly, set a goal (like run the half marathon again). Give yourself a target to aim for.

Best wishes on your recovery.

Hamm, I'm at the tail end of recovery from an ACL tear over a year and a half ago. Top two tips I can give are to do your rehab religiously and remember that you will beat your injury. Good luck! :)
