I don't get the fuss.

"OMG It's live! Will the fluff their lines?!?!?!?!"

Thousands of actors perform live in plays everyday and risk fluffing lines. Why is it news in this instance?

I think most people in the UK watch or are at least aware of one of the soaps. Even if it's The Archers on Radio 4.

 Not for a few years, no.

But they're gooseberry fool actors on national TV, so it might be a laugh.

It's not just the actors is it. It's all the cameramen, technicians, director and extra's that have to factor in aswell

Live TV, especially something like this must be an absolute nightmare to put together. So many units dotted around the set and they all have to be timed to perfection.

The best thing was seeing Pasty Palmer in Celebrity Apprentice. She really is Bianca Jackson. No difference between her & the character whatsoever.

Some plays have direction, bit parts, lighting, even crude special affects - some are even set to MUSIC.
And they have set changes, not just camara cuts.

Live TV, especially something like this must be an absolute nightmare to put together. So many units dotted around the set and they all have to be timed to perfection.

But again, that already happens daily - just look at (say) the News. There's cuts to reports miles away in the field, inter studio etc.

I'm not trying to be obtuse, but I really don't see why this is being viewed as an "event".

Because whenever a soap has gone Live in the past, it's gone wrong. Especially in The Bill. That was a mess.

So...you're going to reward them for being gooseberry fool by higher viewing figures? Why not not watch so they'll only ever put out pre-recorded quality products?

I don't get you kids today :(

I agree Hexx, it's all a load of over hyped nonsense. If something goes horribly wrong, then I look forward to the YouTube video. Hopefully someone freezes up and then starts crying.

I can't stand soaps, but on the live Coronation Street episode, I seem to remember Mike Baldwin standing in the pub grinning like a loon for no reason, like troll face

Because unlike a play, this'll be watched by millions of people. In saying that, ER did it perfectly, twice in fact.

Well he is leaving, and apparently "with a bang" so we will see. I don't like Eastenders, but I did like that dude.

Actors in plays don't tend to act in 5 different plays each week either.
