We were starting to worry that he was behind in that respect, (he's a bit older than your kid, IIRC) but they just do it when they're ready. It's still a bit mixed with Arch at the minute - some days he'll tell you every time he needs to go and he wears the same nappy all day. Sometimes he just goes quite contentedly in his nappy.

I think they reach the point where they don't like the sensation of pissing/shitting themselves and it just becomes natural to tell you.

My wife is more likely than me to worry about things like potty training, to my mind he isn’t going to want to wear a nappy when he is 18, so he will get there eventually. I think we will start properly next year, he will be 3 in May so just before then seems a good time to me.

Mine has a habit lately of saying “I NEED IT” when he wants something that I wont let him have.

On Monday we were in a gadget/novelty type shop and he was saying “I want a car” when he saw the remote controlled cars. I said “Maybe Santa will bring you one” (that’s a lie, he isn’t getting one ) which seemed to content him until he saw the remote controlled helicopters “I NEED A HELICOPTER! I NEED IT”.

I told him that if daddy can’t have a helicopter he certainly isn’t having one.
