still is sticking it to the man... bravo, dude!

I feel positively futuristic with my 26", 720p LCD (HD ready 8-) ) set in my front room. The Freeview and Wii / Wii U picture quality is ace  .

Oh, I thought it was your main TV. I still have 2 CRTs from the 90's in the house, one in the corner of the kitchen and another in the spare room!

It is our main TV!, in the living room. We have a spare, computer, office, library, music, chill out room thing upstairs which is where I, increasingly rarely, (roll on Switch....), play video games. I have genuinely found that if you sit and watch something, if you are absorbed, it really doesn't matter what you are watching it on, screen size, picture quality is irrelevant.
(Good grief, I remember watching Pot Black in black and white, and yes, you could 'see' the colours.) (Shows age....!)

I will only disagree with this point on the basis of the size of text on lots of games these days. I used to play my PS3 on a 28" CRT and I could barely read any text on Tomb Raider due to its tiny size and the resolution of the TV. Tiny, blurry text sucks you straight out of that zone.

However, for watching TV, I'm sure it's fine!

Don't disagree with any of that at all.

LG announced the 4K audio thing.

Oh right, so it is. I see Samsung have gone with QLED...I'm sure it's just pure coincidence it looks like OLED.

Looking at the product announcements this year it's striking just how quickly people have embraced always on microphones in various products. There's been a lot of stuff announced with Alexa integration and Nvidia made a big deal about offering plug in mic add ons for their Shield TV update. When you think back to how annoyed people were about the always on nature of Kinect it's some turnaround in only a few years.

With UK government legislation leading towards the government having access to our internet history, how long before they want access to the cameras and microphones on our TVs? The government could easily have access to view and listen to every living room and bedroom in the entire country....

Monitoring all that would have to be among the dullest jobs in history unless they manage to find some OCD terrorists who constantly talk about nothing other than terrorist plots.
I can see James Bond using his licence to kill to shoot himself in the head out of the sheer boredom of it all.

We're already seeing requests for that sort of information. The privacy concerns about the sheer amount of data people generate now is something legislators will need to catch up with as we all carry more sensors that are always on.

I wouldn't buy a TV with a built in webcam/microphone for that very reason, I no longer trust our government not to introduce something like that.

I saw it as a positive that Boris Johnson, Theresa May and Jacob Rees-Mogg would be watching me wank. :datass:

Are you expecting them to have Strictly points paddles and score you?

You wouldn't have people doing monitoring - I imagine you'd use speech-to-text to transcribe everything, parsing for certain words/phrases, and only get a person involved once something interesting has been flagged up. Same with cameras using motion detection/facial recognition.

You could also use gathered data to look back over people if they have become interesting at a later point for whatever reason. Live monitoring isn't necessary.

No, I am expecting to put on a full VR suit and feel them paddling me. :datass:
