Now that you mention it, I can't even remember what happened to him in the last book.

The above was copied from the TV thread.

Which changes are you talking about?

The death of Barristan and Mance. Brienne finding Sansa (and Arya) and just carrying on.

Reduction in the role of Kevan Lannister.

For all that i like some of the others.

Jaquen, Sansa pushed more to the fore. Margaery more scheming. The Tyrion arc is so, so much better than the book.

I understand the changes of course and i think they had to be done for it work well. I just think Barristan and Mance deeserved better for starters and i loved the character and gruffness of Kevan in the books after Tywin dies. Would loved to have seen more of that. Maybe we will.

Cheers, I was wondering if the annoying changes would be ones that I found annoying and I think we are broadly in agreement.

Sansa/Brienne is interesting as the TV show has gone past where the books left them. As the TV show will finish long before the books are complete, I wonder just how different they are going to turn out to be.

I hate Brienne's arc in the show. They've strawberry floated it since she left KL with oathkeeper.

They had to as they were removing Lady Stoneheart though.

I still don't understand why they removed Lady Stoneheart. They showed Thoros so why not her? Unless they are bringing her in later to be able to surprise us book readers.

Holy gooseberry fool at Barristan. I haven't watched the latest season, but that's nuts. That scene in Season 1 where he is stripped of his knighthood is one of my favourites.

They could have kept a few of the bits leading up to that part, the fight against Shagwell and the monastery bit with the gravedigger/hound?

I hate how they've killed Mance in the show.

The Brienne arc in the books is a strawberry floating awful and boring as gooseberry fool. You could easily skip all of her chapters and nothing would be lost. The show has actually made it better.

I enjoyed the Brienne chapters. Hated Brans chapters :x

The novels are so much better than the TV series and don't get me wrong I strawberry floating love the TV show. Apart from the bastard changes though :|

Bah. Not being able to talk about the books in the show thread is like being forced to stand silently while someone tells a story but gets half of the details wrong.

This series has been the one where its stood out the most that the showrunners don't really know what they're doing. I understand adaptations can be different, and I'm fine with that, but when you go off on your own weak bullshit, then draw it back in to the literature for the main narrative beats, everyone's motives have been strawberry floated with and nothing makes sense.

Cersei's storyline has gone from being the faraway the highlight of the fourth book to a whole load of :?

It makes me so mad, goddamn.

I know that feeling. In the books it makes sense- (Feast for Crows spoilers) she arms the faith in return for them reorganising the crown's debt repayments. In the show she's just like "here have some militia".

Not only that, but (more Feast for Crows spoilers):

It's an actual conspiracy in the books. After she has Osney Kettleblack kill the High Septon through fear of what Lancel might have told him, her plan is to get Margery beheaded by getting Osney to seduce her into having an affair. She hates Margery and schemes to have her killed. That's what Cersei does. She plots to have those she hates killed (see: Robert, Tyrion)

In the show, she hates Margery so... gets her brother locked up for being gay? And Margery joins him for lying?

Any time Dany's chapters appeared in Dance with Dragons, my brain would just shut down. What a boring pile of shite for the most part. It was interesting the way they left her though.

So the title of the last episode of season 5 of Game of Thrones has been announced as "Mother's Mercy".

This is from the AFFC appendix:
Lady Stoneheart, a hooded woman, sometimes called MOTHER MERCY, THE SILENT SISTER, and THE HANGWOMAN.

It's happening.
