I've watched the whole of the first TV series, and I'm 400 pages into the first book.

Do I need to continue reading the book, as I'm finding it a struggle having just watched the series, and knowing what is going to happen, or can I just skip on ahead to the 2nd book?

No spoilers please, I've managed to avoid reading the thread to type this.

If you want to read the second book, I strongly recommend you read the first as well. 400 pages in? You must be more than halfway already?

Yeah, I'm exactly half way through. I shall continue. Thanks.

Always finish the first book. Theres so many content that isn't in the tv series naturally. And as you would have found out by now, there are differences.

MASSIVE SPOILER COMING UP...

And I know who Jon Snow's mother... And real father...

All this from the first two books. It's subtle hidden and there are many hints.

Well you don't "know". There are some clues, and it seems likely that it can't be anything else, but you can't be 100% right now until Georgey boy spells it out for us.

How much was yours Fargo?

I ordered all 5 books too, which arrived on Saturday. I bought them separately though, amounted to £25.

Currently around 100 pages through A Gamevof Thrones. It's pretty much exactly like the first episode, with just more history, mainly on how Robert overthrew the Targaryen's.

I just made a start on the first book on Sunday.

Seeing that bundle of Fargo's makes me kinda sad that I went for the ebooks. I loved the feeling of a good thick book in the hands.

Anyway, I have absolutely no idea what to expect from these. I literally know nothing about them.

In my opinion, the hints about Jon Snow's parentage are no more subtle than the ones about Renly's sexuality. Once I'd finished with the books it was one of the first things I brought up with my housemate, and she agreed that it's the most obvious conclusion.

So screwed. So very screwed.

Minor point, but didn't the Night's Watch get their hands on the Horn of Winter when Stannis' men showed up to massacre Rayder's?

Actually yes, I continue to embarrass myself with my bad memory of this series. I should really shut the hell up!

Do you remember if, they planned to destroy or destroyed the horn? Surely it's an accident waiting to happen, if it is magical and can do what Rayder thinks it can.

Ok I just finished Game of Thrones and I'm confused by one part.

Lord Renly now King Renly just got married, but I thought from the TV show he was bum buddies with Ser Loras?

Its a political marriage.

I'd imagine that the 7 kingdoms aren't quite ready for an openly gay king.

Oh, and for historical precedent, see our own Edward II

Don't worry, he bows out of it later.
"Sorry my loyal bannermen, but I cannot marry this daughter of an immensely wealthy and powerful lord because I'm actually in love with this man from my pretorian guard. Now, though this is fuedal society with mass illiteracy that harbours stupifying levels of bigotry and superstition, I'm sure you are all open minded enough to accept this as well as the huge political and military fallout. So... anyway, what's Stannis up to?"

I'm at:

Jon and his half-sister just watched Joffrey and Robb be denied the chance to duel with live steel.

Because I'm reading the Kindle edition, I have no idea how many pages in this is, but I'm curious to know.

The Lannisters seem like right banana splits.
