Anyway......

I'm missing Victarion in the show. His chapters were one of my favourites in ADwD. I guess they have just rolled him into Khaleesi pls of house friendzone.

We can only talk about the upcoming, soon to be released Winds of Winter. Coming soon, to a bookstore near you!

I'd personally appreciate it if there wasn't but I'm more than happy to avoid the thread until I've read all the books

What's the difference between this thread and the new book discussion thread? I thought this was the book discussion thread. Or is the other thread for those who want to discuss both the show and books?

I guess this is just for books and the other thread is for TV talk with book discussion allowed.

I think it's better when you just accept that he's never going to finish this book series. Resolution will be found in the TV show.

Yeah i think you are right. At the very most I think he may get one more book out but that's probably it. I think he's struggling to write it because of what's already happened to the story on tv, so he's now unsure what direction to go etc, has writers block and has probably lost his passion for writing the books.

I'm not sure the TV show has slowed him down, he's been sloth like ever since the first book came out.

Storm of Swords came out the year after Clash of Kings.

But if you look at the ever-increasing windows between books, it's quite worrying. The guy is a whale, I sincerely doubt he's in great health. It's a race against time, I reckon.

We can only hope he has enough notes left behind that somebody can do a Christopher Tolkien and assemble them into something resembling a finished product.

An update from GRRM:
Regulars here may recall our plan to assemble an entire book of my fake histories of the Targaryen kings, a volume we called (in jest) the GRRMarillion or (more seriously) FIRE AND BLOOD. We have so much material that it's been decided to publish the book in two volumes. The first of those will cover the history of Westeros from Aegon's Conquest up to and through the regency of the boy king Aegon III (the Dragonbane). That one is largely written, and will include (for the first time) a complete detailed history of the Targaryen civil war, the Dance of the Dragons. My stories in DANGEROUS WOMEN ("The Princess and the Queen") and ROGUES ("The Rogue Prince") were abridged versions of the same histories.

No publication date has been set yet, but it's likely that we will get the first volume of FIRE AND BLOOD out in late 2018 or early 2019. The second volume, which will carry the history from Aegon III up to Robert's Rebellion, is largely unwritten, so that one will be a few more years in coming.

And, yes, I know you all want to know about THE WINDS OF WINTER too. I've seen some truly weird reports about WOW on the internet of late, by 'journalists' who make their stories up out of whole cloth. I don't know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I've been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages. Both 'reports' are equally false and equally moronic. I am still working on it, I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that's all I care to say. Whether WINDS or the first volume of FIRE AND BLOOD will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018... and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream...

http://grrm.livejournal.com/544709.html

So he's saying he should have either Winds of Winter or the first volume of Fire and Blood out in 2018, or perhaps both (hahaha).

How difficult is it? Stop doing other stuff and finish the strawberry floating book!

The TV series and all the phenomenal success has stemmed from the quality of the source material and the continuation of that is what has suffered the most. Someone should glue him to a strawberry floating chair in front of his computer.

The Tv series will be done before we see the next book. I remember the days when we used to say - if he doesn't get a move on the TV series might catch him up.

Odds are having to sort of the tv show with there changes to the story is what has screwed his progress.

Doing a show while the books arent finished was a big mistake he should have finished the book first then done the show so they dont get in the way of each other.
