was all the stuff with bran and craster's keep in the book? Seems like a desperate way to change bran's boring as strawberry float storyline.

Basically. (All books spoilers) Bran has like three chapters between ASOS and DWD. They're already broadcasting WOW spoilers. :(

In fact the HBO online recap of that ep was posting even more WOW spoilers.

What are they? The bit with the baby?

Also is that Locke in the books/doing what he did in that ep? Joining the nights watch to basically follow jon?

The baby thing is new and in the online HBO recap they called the head Other guy (WOW spoilers maybe) the "Night's King". It's since been edited so it just says a generic walker.

Locke is based off Vargo Hoat who got fed to the Harrenhall bear IIRC. All that plotline is new but he'll probably get killed off next week when he tries to kill Bran.

Cheers mori, ridiculous that the show is in the situation to potentially spoil parts of the next book already :fp: :fp:

Wasn't he fed to the other prisoners, or even himself? I hope he's not the one to stab John, it'll be a lot better coming from his mates like the book.

I've just looked it up and you're right. It's like an episode of Hannibal.

The promo for 4x07 next week strongly implies they're using the (SOS spoilers) "Only Cat" scene. Far too soon. :( It has to be paired with the (SOS) Stoneheart reveal for maximum effect.

I don't really know a lot about the books but is the tv show following the book series in order or are they just taking bits from each book here and there? If they are following the books what book are they currently on in the tv show?

It's generally in order but stuff is being reordered; especially stuff being brought forward from later books. This is mainly because after A Storm of Swords, the books cover geographical regions rather than chronological time, so the actual a-b-c sequence of events is pretty flexible.

How much of the first book does the first season of this ignore or change? I want to read them before watching it but I can't get hold of my book until friday and the show will suit my need to kill time between now and then.

If I remember both correctly, season 1 is basically scene for scene. It's season 2 onwards where they get fiddly.

The ages of kid characters have gone up though. Well I can understand why for some characters but don't quite understand for the others.

Rob was supposed to be 16 isn't he? Which shows how naive he is but somehow TV Rob is shown as inept.

They still try and claim that Snow is 14 or something, which is completely unbelievable

As Skarjo says book 1 is basically season 1 though because the show doesn't feature flashbacks it misses out on a lot of backstory and world-building.

Really? I thought TV Rob was pretty capable.

I though Rob was just a bit older than Jon, so if TV Rob is 16-17 then TV Jon can't possibly be 14.

Isn't Danearys meant to be about 13 in the books?

Yea, which made for interesting reading when Viserys was stuffing perfume up her chuff.

Catelyn was pregnant with Robb when Ned went off to fight Robert's rebellion. He came back to Winterfell with Jon after the war was done.

With how long it takes winter to come around, I wouldn't be surprised if a year in Westeros is equal to like 2 years here or something. Which makes everything more... agreeable.

Except Robin Arryn.

Parody of himself.

Though I actually 100% agree with his stance on autocorrect in word processors.
