I like how when that came out everyone went, “no they mean ‘denser’, it makes sense” but then The Killers turned round and said “no, we do mean dancer”. Right.

Many of the Killers' fans have been mystified why the song's chorus ("Are we human/ Or are we dancer?"), refers to "dancer" in the singular. Some have wondered if Flowers is in fact singing something else, such as, "denser." MTV News asked Flowers about the nonsensical chorus. He replied: "It's taken from a quote by [author Hunter S.] Thompson: 'We're raising a generation of dancers,' and I took it and ran. I guess it bothers people that it's not grammatically correct, but I think I'm allowed to do whatever I want." He added, laughing: "'Denser'? I hadn't heard that one. I don't like 'denser.'"

Yep, the lyrics are absolute bollocks.

Speaking as someone who writes music, I can tell you that most songs start as a stream of consciousness as you put chords down to work out a melody, pick a better note to go here and there, and so on. Often you'll write complete and utter bollocks as melody placeholders to then work on further down the line when proper inspiration hits (Ah this song is now about X, here come the decent lyrics), except with most of these guys, they just need to bang out an album's worth of tunes and get it recorded, so a lot of it is just the first thing that popped in to the writer's head. It's why a band's first couple of albums are usually really good, and the third one is gooseberry fool, because the early stuff has been worked on, honed and rewritten, but the record company wants that third one now, so out comes the guff.

Noel Gallagher said himself about shakermaker that he hadn't even written the second verse until they were on the way to record it, and then the car stopped outside sifters (a music shop). He wrote that bit there and then (get it?) and that was that.

Heard this charming little verse (or rather the clean version of it) on the radio today - it's the rap in the middle of an Ariana Grande song:

This the new style with the fresh type of flow
Wrist icicle, ride dick bicycle
Come true yo, get you this type of blow
If you wanna menage I got a tricycle
All these bitches, flows is my mini-me
Body smoking, so they call me young Nicki chimney
Rappers in they feelings cause they feelin' me
Uh, I-I give zero strawberry floats and I got zero chill in me
Kissing me, copped the blue box that say Tiffany
Curry with the shot, just tell 'em to call me Stephanie
Gun pop and I make my gum pop
I'm the queen of rap, young Ariana run pop.

She wanna live life jumanji
Girl you know I got just the place for you

Was I successful? I'll let you be the judge of that, when I tell you that I was once supported by a little known Scottish band, called Texas!

So..

Yeah but they could have been gooseberry fool then ;)

Honestly never heard of them, don't try to justify musicianship it's hopeless. I believe you, I have also performed in front of screaming 12 year olds and it's good.

That came out wrong.

I miss it, I wrote some really telling and poetically interesting gooseberry fool when I wasn't thinking about it too much and on reflection it says a lot about where my mind was at when I was very young end the things I found difficult or imagined as I had quite a few imagined relationships. My earliest lyrics made no sense and were so enigmatic they were in some ways more interesting and catchier because you had to read into them. They became way more dense and narrative driven to almost impenetrably metaphorical with tonnes of similes and alliteration. Then I went back to the follow able stuff.

I think good lyrics there is enough for the audience to read into, it sounds good musically, and isn't too complicated. Otherwise I just switch off. But many disagree, and want really artisan, poetic lyrics that are in their own way very hard to read or are an exercise in themselves, like jazz or math rock or classical or other complex music. Don't really listen to them, just can't be bothered (the lyrics I mean, I like those genres).

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

I think you have missed the point of what Ad7 was trying to say. Basically he has created an atmosphere where he is a friend first and a boss second. Probably an entertainer third.

Pharrell Williams? I don't know if you saw it, but Dave Gorman did a great breakdown of that song on his Modern Life is Goodish show.
