BackgroundAn installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, the game was announced in commemoration of its 25th anniversary, and will be released worldwide in November 2017.
The game follows Sonic the Hedgehog as a member of a resistance force against Doctor Eggman, who has taken over the world with the help of his robot army and a mysterious new villain known as Infinite. Gameplay is similar to Sonic Generations with players controlling "Classic" and "Modern" versions of the titular character; the former plays from a 2.5D side-scrolling view reminiscent of the original Sonic games on the Sega Genesis, while the latter uses three-dimensional gameplay similar to Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. In addition to the two Sonics, Sonic Forces also introduces a third gameplay mode featuring the "Avatar", the player's own custom character.

I wanted to get this until I saw some gameplay and it looked a bit janky.
Then every time you team up with sonic it plays a really bad song, presumably aimed at edgy tweens.
That was the nail in the coffin.

The '2.5D' bits look sort of alright-ish but the 3D parts look utterly horrible to actually play.
Sonic simply doesn't work well as a 3D platformer.

Oh man, all this interest!
it's rare to see more than one person here (Seven!) looking forward to a new Sonic game (other than Mania).
I'll have to keep an eye on play impressions posted here after launch, I may have to get this.

I'm a bit unsure... I kinda like the look of the game but I'm wondering if the 3D bits may be a little fast and uncontrollable. I was in for this but, looking at the Switch release schedule, I'm wavering.

Unfortunately Jawa, have to say I haven't played the last two on the Wii U. My last Sonic game was Sonic Lost World.

...oops - it seems that
there was already a Sonic Forces thread .
I'm probably going to give this a miss at launch. The Switch scene is blowing up at the moment, with Odyssey out now plus Doom on 10 Nov and Skyrim on 17 Nov. I'm interested but also a little apprehensive about the Forces gameplay so I'll hit pause and see what the reviews and opinions roll out as.
