I can just imagine the members of Sonic Team sitting down with this game and playing it for the first time. I'll bet they're awestruck.

Edit: Zone 2. :o Beautiful level design, amazing second act, and dat boss. I am saying "wow!"

Edit: More zones. Beautiful stuff. Managed to snag my first Emerald in Weird Ass Japanese Print Shop Zone.

Is there one every stage then? Because if so I missed the one on the second stage

There's one on every stage but they're hidden. Only found 3 so far.

there's usually a few big rings hidden in the levels similar to s3&k

They seem harder to find than in S3&K, but maybe that's because I spent an inordinate amount of time playing that game, learning their locations, and this one is so new.

I love that they included this, I used to mess around with the Sonic 1 debug a bunch! Spamming bonus rings to kill the frame rate is oddly cathartic

Finished! Amazing game. I'm going back in as knuckles. The emeralds can wait. This blows the mega drive games out of the water. Only took what 23 years?

Minor grievance: In S3&K, after each zone boss, you'd see your character do whatever to get to the next zone - drop off Flying Battery, jump into Death Egg etc. I know they've done this a bit in Mania, but I feel like it's inconsistently applied here.

I've never really been a Sonic person, but giving this a go. I am sooo bad at this game though. Already struggling on world 2 - either keep drowning or get squashed between moving blocks. Having some fun with it though, and it's launched at a great price. Well done Sega!

Finished all blue spheres. Some of them where a nice legit challenge. Trying to get these last two emeralds as apparently there is a secret level & / or ending.

So I got this game on PSR before I started Apollo Justice and while i do like 2D sonic games I don't enjoy them much as some of 3D Sonic games (but I do prefer classic Sonic design to modern, a huge reason why I got this game in first place)

I only got to 3-1 but I'm already impressed with it. The speed feels so right, i felt exploration is there, it's full with love and care and it's just beautiful and wonderful experience.

Also 2-2 Boss? Fantastic

Mild Zone 2 spoilers:
The mix up with the chemicals being bouncy and sticky was fantastic. And that boss  I imagine there will be a lot of happy people tomorrow when they reach that.

The end of Zone 2 was fantastic.

Genuinely annoyed I have to put this down when I get to work. :x

I wasn't going to get this game but you lot convinced me otherwise. I even read this post so was pre-expecting something at this point and I still was shocked by it. Well played, Sonic Mania!

Loving the length of these zones, and the difficulty. This might very well be the best 2D Sonic.

Oil Ocean is amazing, but the boss, holy gooseberry fool balls it's difficult. No idea how I'm going to get past it. Lost all 8 of my lives on it.

I don't get the stress for that boss. They're all far too easy except for the dodgy physics on the missile chase one.
