The Oil Ocean boss is as simple as pushing up to take a quick look to see where the danger is. I died the first time too.

I meant to get up early to try and play this; fortunately, I overslept and had to go straight to work but what the strawberry float Sega.

Doesn't new Steam stuff typically go up at 6pm?

To be honest I have no idea.

I'll check to see if it appears tonight at 6pm wouldn't be surprised though.

Advertising a release date and then only making the product available 18 hours into that date just to make it a more convenient time for the US kind of screams "if you're not America you're an afterthought" really. Surely Steam has systems in place that publishers can use to make a title automatically available to different regions at different times based on the local time zone. Not sure what extra effort/cost would be required for that, though I wouldn't be surprised if Valve charged a fee for every time zone specific launch so they just pick one. Could at least pick one in the middle rather than what is the latest extreme for every time zone except one though.

I'm a bit worried that the PC version is a horrible mess, has anyone played it yet?

I'm hoping it doesn't spazz out with 144hz monitors the way Sonic CD does.

Are the special stage controls supposed to be so frustratingly floaty?

It's also beginning to emerge that the PC version delay may have been so they could implement Denuvo DRM on it. Which possibly kills/harms one of the main reasons I went for PC over Switch (Which I could be gotten weeks ago) which was the possibility of mods.

It has 144hz support :toot:

The Christian Whitehead port of Sonic CD runs at nearly 3 times the speed on my monitor unless I change the actual monitor to 60hz. Not that it matters Sonic CD sucks!

It's the worst in the 16 bit style.

A couple weeks removed I'm feeling comfortable in saying Mania > 3+K > 2 > 1 > 3D Blast > CD

Sonic CD is okay, but the time travel mechanic can be a nightmare to pull off and the design of the levels is often quite confusing - and their themes seemed to overlap a bit too much at times. The soundtrack was great though, and those intro/ending videos were wonderful.

Honestly wouldn't mind seeing Whitehead give the in-zone time travel concept a shot, I bet he could make it work. Maybe a "tossed in space" story for Mania 2 (or whatever it ends up being called)? You know, like Reboot - time is so strawberry floated up by the shenanigans in Mania and Forces that Sonic ends up having to make his way back home from across the vast gulf of time and space, using the time stones and chaos emeralds both to get home, or something. Robotnik uses Sonic's long absence to do to the world what he did to Little Planet.

I feeling a bit tired and it may have flavoured my view of Sonic but my favourite is still Sonic 1. Just feel like I'm going through the motions. Going stop and come back.

Er so I was going to give the PC version a quick go dicking about with shadowplay on twitch and ended up completing it in one sitting with 4 emeralds. 2 and a half hours roughly. Once you know each bosses gimmick the difficulty is a joke.

Way easier with a DS4 than the D pad on the pro controller too. No regrets double dipping this is probably my GOTY for my personal tastes.

Yeah, it pops up a text box saying Steam users must be logged in when you try to run it off line.

DRM apparently named "Denuvo." It means you can't play it offline, lower end computers will experience more performance issues, and there's some general security issues too. All to avoid piracy.

Thing is though, this all just puts a glaring spotlight on the game that wouldn't otherwise have been there. It's more than likely going to end up attracting the more skilled pirates.

The Mania devs aren't to blame for this, though. It's Sega. :fp: Even when they win, they still lose.
