I'm so much worse at the blue sphere stages than I used to be, I could do all 14 in S3&K piss easy, now I'm struggling a little, maybe it's cause I refuse to finish a stage unless I get a perfect, but hey, no point otherwise.

Back in the day did people used to overlook how badly Sonic controlled when you're not just blazing through levels, because navigating through tricky obstacles with any kind of finesse is a terrible terrible ball ache.

I just skip those blue ball bonus stages too, can't be arsed at all and the noise when you pick one up is one of the worst ever.

That's always been one of the main complaints I've had with the original games.

That's part of its charm, it is what I love and what I missed in more recent games.

Sonic is meant to be fast so it makes sense he is a big awkward when at slow speeds.

Pedz told me off last night for suggesting these were shite and a completely stupid thing to add to the games. :toot:

No idea why they decided to use them and only them instead of including the ones from Sonic 1 or 2 as well.

They all deserve to be revisited, but the blue spheres were the most iconic of all the special stages.

You're kidding right? The controls of the original Sonic games are superb at all speeds. Sonic had a weight and heft and momentum to him unlike that floaty bastard Mario.

Let's not do this. We can live in a world where Mario and Sonic coexist and compete for Olympic gold

Lava Reef Zone act 2's music is incredible. Really hope a full ost hits streaming services.

Where they? Sonic 2's half pipe stages where up there, more so with it's music.

Part of what I'm having a problem with is that progression is starting to feel entirely random. That strawberry floating plane gooseberry fool just felt as though I was banging my head against a wall waiting for the requisit blood sacrifice to have been paid before the game lets me move forward. I've started to lose all sense of achievement at beating a stage because so much of the time it just feels like luck, I don't get the sense I'm accomplishing anything. If it weren't for the vague hope that there'd be another HD cinematic at the end of the game I'd have probably jacked it in a while ago.

The lack of a stage select really hurts it as well because rather than just taking the pain on these later levels I could go back and find cool stuff on ones I actually enjoyed. Sure I could play time attack but that's not the same and besides, everytime I've tried so far the game has booted me out to the PS4 menu with a 'Report Problem' bug.

Clearly classic styled Sonic isn't for you.

I'd agree with that.

I'd maybe even say that the original Sonic was more iconic with it's rotating psychedlic parrot/fish hellscape.

Wait, is there supposed to be an opening cinematic in this? When I started Mania Mode there wasn't one.

Let the title screen idle.

I think I'm up to the last zone. :-(

I remember taking turns with my brother and playing the Special Stages for hours (plugging Sonic 1, or another game, into S&K). Good memories.

I wonder if they've been included as they were already programmed for the S3&K mobile remake that was never released. It would be a shame for that effort to go to waste.

I loved playing the ball game when Sonic 1 was plugged into Sonic & Knuckles.

Playing this this evening. First zone is a beautiful mix of old and new, very well done. Taxman sure knows how to make a Sonic game, that's for sure! I will be getting lost in this wonderful game.

I can just imagine the members of Sonic Team sitting down with this game and playing it for the first time. I'll bet they're awestruck.

Edit: Zone 2. :o Beautiful level design, amazing second act, and dat boss. I am saying "wow!"

Edit: More zones. Beautiful stuff. Managed to snag my first Emerald in Weird Ass Japanese Print Shop Zone.
