The music is an aspect of this game that has somewhat disappointed me.

There are some good tracks no doubt but the more I listen to them the more it feels that the composer fundamentally doesn't get the core elements that made the original games music (S1 and S2 in particular) so good. Those sharp electronic sounds, the crisp synth drum snaps - it all added up to something really special. The tunes on this are a bit too loose, and the composer has clearly got a real thing for jazz which I think has been allowed to bleed through in to these tracks to their detriment mostly.

Not wanting to seem too negative, like I say there are some great tunes, it just doesn't quite live up to my initial hopes!

Sonic 3 had the best soundtrack.

Ice Cap

Originally taken from this, a member from this band apparently working on some of S3's music

I thought Ice Cap came from MJ's Stranger In Moscow?

Jupiter is in your sun sign this week, making it pretty crowded in there, what with Jupiter being the largest of the planets and all.

Doomsday Zone had the best theme.

When it comes to the boss music I prefer the normal final boss theme to Doomsday Zones.

Boss themes: S3&K > S2 > S1 > S3D (MD) > S3 > SM > SCD.

Ice Cap

S3 music the best? But... I just... words failing... I need to get some air...

Other than Ice Cap and maybe Angel Island I could happily dump the lot. Sonic & Knuckles redeemed things somewhat but it all still sits below the stuff from
Masato Nakamura in the first two games.

S3's not my favourite overall but Hydro City, Ice Cap, Blue Spheres and the final boss theme are all among the best for my money

Another musical disappointment with Mania is the lack of a credits song medley - that was always a highlight of finishing the classic Sonic games!

Yeah, I was sure they'd do a Sonic 1-style medley, complete with video compilation. Disappointed that they missed out on it.

Managed to get this for a tenner so got it. It's alright, but it's basically a collection of old levels so I'd give it a 6/10 at most. It'd be great for people who've never played Sonic before though, or barely touched the old games.

Press Garden is my favourite level. It might have been Mirage Saloon but it's only really one act, and that lasts two minutes.
