Do you normally not get reviews of new games until they actually release? is it not like the film industry were reviews come out early?

You used to, but it seems recently many stop reviews saying anything until the day before or on release day so they can hype it themselves without risk of setbacks

Yeah, the release of reviews has really changed in the past few years. It now seems to be the done thing for most publishers to only allow reviews to be published just prior to, or on, the day of release. A couple of publishers don't even make games available to review until they have been released.

As ever, it's best to hold off from making a purchase until you have read a few reviews. Publishers try and dissuade you from doing this by including some kind of DLC with launch day purchases, but the value of that pales in comparison to dropping £40 to £80 on a new game.

Sonic Mania is "only" around £16, I know... but I'll still hold off on deciding whether to pick it up or not until I've seen some reviews.

Goodness. Was going to wait to play to watch this but due to the delay... That's some good ass animation there. I love how they're positioning Mania as the sequel to Sonic and Knuckles, and full on ignoring Sonic 4 as the abomination it was.

Just watched that intro now - I think the 10-year-old me would have probably passed out from excitement watching that!

Can't deny it's had a pretty meaty impact on the 32-year-old me as well! :toot:

Ending rumours/spoilers:

Apparently the true ending of this is a cliffhanger/setup for Sonic Forces

Think I will too. Any of the reviews mention the lack of D-Pad on Switch effecting gameplay?

Quick look seems to suggest the Switch version isn't actually out there yet. Reviews seem to be based on the PS4 version of the game.
