Why use 50 words when you can use 5000? The words are there, USE THEM.

The English language is full of words, lots of words, the best words, I didn’t mean to turn this into a Trump impression but the man is right, we have the best people, the best words, magnificent, sad, fake, all the words are there. With so many of the very best words, why not use those words to convey the exact meaning of the idea that you are trying to get across? You can skimp and save with the words, of course you can, but with a rich tapestry of language to explore, the best way is to not conserve words (they will never run out) but to stretch out your point, over and over and over, until people are literally falling asleep. Because that is the key, sleep helps people relax and refresh themselves and it is all because you used words.

So in future, don’t think “Ooooo I will make this point in a much shorter way”, that way lies madness, Karlprof style crazy strawberry floating madness. Who wants to be like Karl? I mean he is clever and apparently has a hot Italian girlfriend, but cleverness and hot Italian chicks are only temporary, the best way to be is like Gecko, use your words to make big long posts and you too will one day own badass lizards that are green in colour.

So Errkal, my old chum, the words are there, don’t go only using 50 of them, when 262 of them can get your point across in a way that allows you to write and write and write.

I see, I wasn't able to gain the jist of the point you making from the shorter, more concise version of your description. However by elongating the response I now see what you are driving at.

Certainly a point on occasion can be made in a short manner, but it is better, I feel to say it ong hand as it were to ensure that the point being made is put across fully without any doubt remaining.

Additonally as you say we have a rich tapestry of words at our disposal and such it would be wrong to not use them at every given opportunity to make our points, the words are there through our rich and long history as a great nation, we owe it to our history and heritage to use them as often as we possibly can.

Green Gecko wrote:Well, we err on "new news, new thread", to avoid lots of little bits of news getting lost in giant threads. But that's not a policy by any means. We encourage things like if there's a bombshell or big game within a direct, or a Sony conference for example, people create a thread for that thing as well. E.g. Nintendo Labo.

If you want to have a Directs Update thread, welcome to, I would recommend updating the OP with each direct so it's current. Sometimes threads with no OP updates, we re-assign the OP to maintain the topic, so it's a good source of info for people new to the topic or browsing in from elsewhere. That's our general policy on megathreads of all kinds, whether it's for a really popular game like Destiny for example or a TV show like GoT.

There'll always be crossover, we don't tell anyone where to post about certain things, unless it's 2 threads about the exact same thing (e.g. new game, 2 threads, in which case the newer or slightly better one wins or they get merged). People chat about current Nintendo stuff in the Switch thread (regulars have Switch Squad sigs), before that it was Club U, there's still a 3DS thread I post in, etc.

We try to avoid giant sponge topics, we've eventually closed up some threads like that, e.g. USTV.. a thread about everything Nintendo for example wouldn't work. With the exception of the Chat Room Thread (that gets restarted occasionally) and some other threads (Switch probably counts, PCGT - PC Gamer Thread), that have their own sort of sub-communities and the community feels they are needed.

There's a bit of history. We generally find super giant threads about one monolithic topic hurt the forum because they soak up a lot of discussion and people basically thread one topic like a giant forum and don't go anywhere else, making that content hard to navigate and discover for people like new SONMers.

This doesn't include a Direct thread, which is more about news-specific discussion than a genre or medium for example. So that's OK.

Much more generally, we're positive about people thinking, I want to discuss this thing, I bet there are other people who do too. So just make that thread and see what happens. We don't want anyone worrying about thread creation and nobody needs permission to create a thread. And certainly nobody will get a snide PM or warning or anything like that if they start something, for any reason, even if they just post a joke thread - we're not NeoGAF (RIP In Peace).

i dont seem to have the option the post new threads after all

Hello Nintendo forum people, sorry about your forum shutting down. I felt the same melancholy when my beloved GardeningTrowelEnthusiast forum closed back in 1979,sad times indeed.

I'd love to have volunteered to do AYAW during this exciting new era, but sadly I'm away for a good while during the next few weeks. :(

Doubt I'll be sticking around for the long run, and as much as I'd love to help show you lot how AYAW should be done again, my job definitely wouldn't give me the time to be active other than late at night/weekends, and even those wouldn't be a given.

Still, figured I'd poke my nose in to say thanks for taking us in, I'm sure those who do stick around have found a great new online home here.

Well here I am, I know you've all been waiting intensely for this.

Apparently I signed up to this board in 2011. Awesome. Was only active briefly back then though.

I'll probably be more active on here now but not extremely, generally less active on the internet these days anyway.

Good to meet you all though (apart from those of you who were already at SONM, you can go away)
