The PlayStation 1 looked super cool. A mini version of that, yes please. Just a whole room full of tiny wee consoles, that's the stuff that dreams are made off.

The PSone was pretty dinky anyway and the official lcd screen for it was ace. It's probably the smallest console I have seen. Not PC Engine levels of smallness, but close :) .

The PSone was lovely and the first PS I ever owned. Was only slightly bigger than a portable CD player as well.

I'd be happy with them just re-releasing that with a load of built in games.

Really enjoyed the PS1. We got that, some F1 game and Battle Arena Toshinden. That game had hilarious voice acting.

I think the real challenge would be curating a list of titles that really represent the PlayStation, because it had such a diverse library and lingered so long it went from being state of the art to being a cheap first console. So I was wowed with games like Ridge Racer and Tekken that weren’t possible on Snes, and stayed for things like the Resi series, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear. But a whole other section of the market loved Crash and Spyro, which I had no interest in because I had an N64 with Mario. I await any official developments with great interest.

I'd really like rival schools as I played it a ton with some friends of mine but it seems like a bit of a b tier title.

Nostalgia is a near-endless mining source in gaming. Many companies often dig into their past and remaster or re-release whatever might bring back your childhood memories. Sony might be attempting to do just that, as Sony are internally considering making a PLAYSTATION CLASSIC, according to a recent interview.

Speaking with Mantan Web (and translated by ComicBook), Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO John Kodera (also known as Tsuyoshi) described the company's attitude towards making a PS1 packed with old games. He stated that the company was mulling over the idea of making a PLAYSTATION CLASSIC. However, he seemed to suggest that the company was only discussing the possibility.

"Our company is always digging up past assets," said Kodera in the translation. "I think there are various ways to do (a classic console). There have been discussions happening (within the company) on what kind of ways are there."

With no PS5 until late 2020/2021 this might give them something to focus on in the meantime.

With the recent HD release of Crash and upcoming Spyro I'm not so sure they'd want to potentially cannibalise the sales of those and I could see them missing from a Playstation classic.
Or at best would be just the first game in each series and nothing else.

I guess they have two possible options: Xbox One X style tech that upgrades the graphics somehow, or by using an alternative version rather than the PSone original. Many games came out on PC or in the arcades.

I think they’ll have to do something because the original games just aren’t going to work on a 4KTV like they do on Vita or even a 1080p TV.

Rival Schools was ace. The PS1 was a great system for games. I used to have over a hundred and fifty titles, some quite rare, but sold all but a dozen of them on Amazon. Just didn't have the room.

I'd love a massive retro collection but I don't think I'll ever have the room.

I have the room for a massive retro collection, but retro prices seem to have gone through the roof in the last few years.

Classic systems solve both problems though.

Trouble is with having a huge retro games collection is that it just sits there taking up room. Sure it might be something to share/show off if you have a guest over who has an interest, but most of the time it's just another extension of a back catalogue you'll never get around to going through.

If I fancy playing a PS1 game I just emulate it.
