Sony has seemingly been gauging the public’s interest in a downloadable PSP rental service.

The subscription-based service would offer an extensive catalogue of titles upon launch, according to a survey obtained by Joystiq.

The survey says a potential rental service would enable users “to download a fixed number of games during your subscription period,” noting that the subscription period could be weekly, monthly “or some other time period.”

"You will be able to change the games you have chosen for the download once your subscription period renews," it continues. "At launch there will be an extensive catalogue of games to choose from, with more titles being added to the catalogue each month."

It has been heavily rumoured over the last few months that Sony is planning to reposition the PSP as a fully digital online device. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the platform holder will release a UMD-free PSP that would operate on a download-only model, and that the new portable will be revealed at E3 next month.

Definite interest from me. I get my music from Napster To Go which is a subscription service to download songs to my MP3 player. Subscription would be great - especially with the high prices of PSP games on the store.

Yeah I agree. Why the prices are so high, I have no idea.

I'd use it if it's priced right.

that makes no sense, its rental so you could always buy the full version if you wanted it permanently but some people prefer renting if they only want a game for a few days.
