I'm well aware it is not the norm. I do not wish for it to become the norm.

You are defending a company being forced to use a begging website in order to fund the sequel to a much loved franchise of games, when the massive global corporation that will be publishing it on their own hardware - and who sold the developers the development consoles to make it - refuse to to invest 2 million which they could make back easily from the game's sales. All the while, Sony are showcasing the game at their conference as a way to drive up interest in their own company's hardware (and the software for it).

Its not like MS don't have other games for later in 2016 and beyond as well. We know they've got at least 3 huge titles that fit the bill, they were just too busy showing games we are actually going to play in the next year to put them in their conference.

It's been 14 years since the last game came out, it was very niche even back then. Funding this requires a large budget, putting that cash up-front 100% via sony is too much of a risk. A serious goal (2mil) to be met within 31 days will give venture capitalists positive indication that it's a good project to back. This is not the norm, and is the best option - it simply won't happen any other way.

2 million is nothing for a game of this size.

Regardless, this is the only way it'll happen , if you like it then pledge.

Shenmue 3 is expected delivery December 2017 on Kickstarter.

So probably 2018 if not later.

I disagree. There's the simple fact i've already mentioned a post ago, 2 million IS NOT THE BUDGET. It's just an indicator. I'm not stupid, i know sony are a for-profit company, but in this case they were just giving the world the biggest 'heads-up' suzuki could get by allowing that stage chat / trailer.

I think you're being way too pessimistic. And you're forgetting how big budgets for these games really are.

this 'technique' only mitigates risk for the shareholders (is that a good thing? i don't know) but i'll probably make the $500 back when i sell the 4 figures in later years.
