I want to play shenmue. I don't see why the developer should be forced to beg from the outside world when the company they are developing for refuses to simply fund the game. Sony will make more money off of them developing with Kickstarter money, as they will not need to invest a penny. It's a really shitty move.

$2m is not enough to make Shenmue 3, you really think Sony haven't also put some money into already? I'd imagine they have a lot of investors.

Then why not front the money to begin with? It's strawberry floating stupid, and people are eating it up. Supporting this sort of behaviour will do nothing to improve investment in innovation and creativity in the games industry.

You realise the previous games killed a company? There is no guarantee there is a player base, you get $2m from fans you get an idea of that fan base and that is when investors put more money.

You mean other than the free advertising they just got by appearing at E3?

If sony is showcasing the game, at a premier games conference, you would expect that there would be at least some interest - if not considerable interest - in the game. Showcasing it and then begging fans to fund it, rather than funding it themselves - and thus enabling development to begin as soon as possible (something which would be better for all involved) - comes across as extremely mean.

Shenmue - I assume the lack of an Xbox One option means Sony are investing something in this if it gets funded as cutting out a sizeable chunk of potential backers seems silly otherwise.

I got a bit annoyed at that then backed it anyway for $300. I've been waiting so long now I'm not gonna let it go without trying to help get it made over a petty format preference. Looks like it's a quarter of the way to being funded almost already.. this.. might.. happen :toot:
