Ah yes, SSX, a game title which used to make Ant & Dec smirk on SM:TV.

It's like when people refer to the PS1 as the PSX.

I never understood that either.

I miss Virgin Megastores, the exeter branch was great and had a huge range of stuff.

I also miss MVC, after the Dreamcast was discontinued, they were one of the few stores which actually cut the prices of some games rather than just remove the DC shelf altogether (and that allowed me to get Pen Pen, Soul Calibur, and F1 World GP 2 (among others) for a fraction of the original price).

I also didn't get why it was called PSX either... I've always used PS1 but I assumed it was something with how it sounds, being deaf and all that

Guess not though.

It was originally called the PlayStation X before launch, but was removed late in development.

People show still refer to the PlayStation as PSX :dread:

Almost puts me off my project reality.

I was a GameCube guy, my brother had a PS2 so I only really played a handful of games during it's lifespan, notably God of War 1 & 2, Dragon Quest VIII and the Onimusha Trilogy. I have however played a good chunk of the HD collections that came out on PS3 like Ratchet and Clank, Sly Raccoon and Devil May Cry.

My brother had a huge collection of PS2 games however easily 2 or 3 bags for life full of them. He traded them in for peanuts a year or so back if memory serves.

Back then I didn't have much cash for games and I religiously followed EDGE's review score if I wanted to get a good game. The marked GTA 3 4/10 which meant I missed out on it for months until I seen that they said in the next issue that they made a mistake and it was supposed to be 8/10. Missed 4 weeks of that game, loved it when I finally got it though. It was a true generational leap and I was really excited, kinda like when I played Ridge Racer on PS1 for the first time.

MGS 2 was absolute wank though, I've never been more disappointed in a sequel in the history or all gaming.

Didn't the PS2 have a pretty bad launch lineup? I may be remembering wrong, it was a long time ago.

PS2 was a bit of an odd one for me. Loved the PS1. But had a Dreamcast at PS2 Launch. Bought a Ps2 a bit later but then also bought an Xbox shortly afterwards so the PS2 never got used as much as I would have liked.

Still, respect that it was a huge seller with a massive library by the end. I Probably missed out on a lot of games from that period as mostly just played PES, Halo and San Andreas.

I've never been into GTA or FIFA etc but it did host one of my favourite games of all time in the form of Shadow of the Colossus.

Along side the DS Lite the slim version is one of the best hardware revisions going as well.

Same, only back then i had three consoles lined up side by side on my table, the PS2, Gamecube, and Dreamcast.

It was better than the fourth game though.

Otherwise people will think I played a moderately popular games magazine.

I got mine not long after launch from the local indie store. I traded in my Gameboy Color and 20 games to get it (a decision I regret to this day) with Kengo, Kessen and a memory card.

The first year of releases was incredible: seeing the tech of Red Faction and the graphics on Gran Turismo 3 was eye opening.

I fell out with the PS2 after I got my GameCube and sold it to my brother. WipEout Fusion killed it for me. I have never been more disappointed with a game release because I was about the biggest fan of WipEout you could find. I have an epic story about travelling halfway across the country to buy a PSP just to play Pure asap.

I took my GameCube to Uni with me and never looked back. I had a brief flirtation with the PSTwo when the excellent Transformers Armada game came out, but I missed wireless controllers too much.

The launch was a horrific affair, had to put your name down for this lottery style booking system, it was weird, luckily I got one but then things like memory cards and the multi tap were in short supply.

I must say i love that pic! In reality it wasn’t quite like that but it felt like moving from sony to say microsoft. I supported the sega saturn over the playstation and eventually succumbed, but really hoped dreamcast would be ok. Its such a shame that they didn’t have the funds to continue like microsoft have recently.

If you cheat on one company then you are likely to cheat on another. If I was Sony, I would be worried that you were looking at Microsoft and might jump ship in the next generation.
