In the past, we wanted to popularize console and the 1st party titles' main purpose was to make the console popular. It is true, but there is a synergy to it. So if you have strong first party content, not only with our console but also other platforms like computers, 1st party can be grown with multiplatform and that can help operating profit to improve. So that is another one we want to proactively work on.

I personally think there are opportunities out there for improvement of margins, so I would like to go aggressive in improving our margin performance."

Probably "just" PC Day One releases but who knows.

Sony COO: "It's been four months since I became chairman of SIE. A big problem of SIE that I found is they don't necessarily have deep understanding of how their work is being translated to growth, generation of sustainable profits and higher margin for the unit as a whole"

I imagine this is more for PC releases (maybe going day 1) but I do wonder if they are considering putting some stuff on Switch 2.

If Sony and MS both put their first party games on PC day one, what’s the incentive for anyone to buy a PlayStation or Xbox console? Me, right now, I’m just planning on buying the next gen Steam Deck and Switch consoles, that would basically give me access to everything.

I wonder if the move to streaming means under the TV boxes will either be much, much cheaper (and therefore lower overall sales and margins) or non-existent and therefore hooking people on services and maximising revenue from the games themselves is key for the medium to long term.

Makes me think, have we finally reached a point where games development is simply too expensive now? They've been complaining about costs since the 360/PS3 era.

I think they have, the amount they are spending on games+length of time they take has increased dramatically over the last generation. It’s going to hit a point where you get diminishing returns, things need to be scaled back, you can’t rise the price of games again either as the public just cannot afford them.

Problem is, unless you're Nintendo, who (outside of a few franchises/individual games) generally go for quality over quantity/length, people have just come to expect bigger and better games from developers now. Except for underlying physics engines, which should always be advancing, it's not like games would have been unplayable if they still looked like PS4 games is it?

Probably helps that Nintendo are still stuck in that PS3/360 era as well, well they're between those and the PS4/Xbox One. Probably makes games a fair bit cheaper to develop.

I'm thinking that this could mean PlayStation Studios games appearing Day One on Amico.

If doing a significant amount of heavy lifting here

My PS5 is just a blu ray player at this point. First party releases on PC just cements this.

What I'm hearing is there's going to be a surprise drop of Bloodbourne Q3 with 120HZ 4K support on PC.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
