The PSP/Vita were such desirable pieces of hardware, especially when put up against that launch model Nintendo DS or what had come before from other manufacturers, whereas this Q thing has about as much sex appeal as your nan.

Take that back, my nan is hot

Without sounding inflammatory, is the only difference between the PQ and Wii U the fact that people with ludicrous home fibre speeds can stream outside their home?

I'm not quite sure where the need for this resides then? Most people who have the fibre capacity to stream lag-free will already have a decent sized phone (and gamepad stand) which is arguably more portable anyway.

Not even that, don't you have to be on the same wifi as the PS5? So it's in home only.

Love the look of this.

But playing the PS5 in my home, but portable (so when we're watching tv, has a certain value. £100 I reckon. But the basic controller costs what, £70? No chance this will be at a price point for me to bite.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

Yeah this is my thought process, Switch is great as you can carry on playing your games on the sofa if someone wants the TV so having the same for PS5 is a good idea. Saying that, the fact it’s not a true portable device means that if they think of charging anything above £100 it will be DOA.

I'm one of the minority who likes this idea, but I'll wait and see how it works. Also, the price of it too

That's strange, normally U follows Q, not the other way around.

The PSP and Vita were good looking machines, bit I didn't find either comfortable. While this looks odd, I think it looks like it would be much more comfortable to use. Still, I won't be getting it.

I very mouth doubt that this is going to fall into the "£100" bracket; if the screen is OLED then this is gonna be pretty expensive - maybe component costs would be around £100+ just for the screen? With a standard DualSense being £65 and this version an updated model... plus the need for a decent wifi receiver... and the casing... this could end up being around £250+ on the shelf. Especially as there is no way of creating additional income from the device - it's a one-off purchase. It may cause owners to purchase more games on their PS5, but who knows?

Oh, and rumours abound that it'll launch in November; probably not too much of a revelation when Sony had said it'll arrive this year.

I'd be shocked if this is less than £200, I think Jawa is right about £250+

This will cost like £50-£80 to make in a large quantity. It's a screen, a motherboard, a battery and a few buttons. Is it even confirmed to be OLED? Not that that will change the BoM all that much over LCD.

Users are also much more likely to buy digital games so they don't have to swap discs and Sony make 30% on digital sales. Plus subscriptions to their cloud streaming if that gets patched in in the future.

If this launches at £200+ then I expect it will get a price cut pretty quickly if the premium PlayStation logo doesn't help sell it to the cult.

At £200 you're competing with 4K TVs so your market is then reduced to people who own a PS5 but don't want a second TV or own a smartphone or a tablet but want to play on a small screen in bed.

Prepare yourselves, because Insider Gaming understands that the Project Q battery life will be around 3-4 hours.

The release is slated for "later this year", said Jim Ryan, which Insider Gaming understands to be mid-late November 2023.

Two lots of disappointing news. "3-4 hours" doesn't seem much for a device that is just a display and a wifi adapter, whilst choosing LCD over OLED must have been a decision to lower the cost.

I was keen on this but, even if it comes in a bit cheaper than expected, my desire has lowered a lot.

Does the battery life matter that much when you have to be at home to play it anyway....

Not even that, don't you have to be on the same wifi as the PS5? So it's in home only.

You could tether to mobile maybe?

There's absolutely no way they can make this the same price as a Switch Lite. It's half the product.

The most I'd ever pay for this would be like £150

Considering they are selling the Edge controller for over £200 I don’t think that bodes well for this being less :slol:
