Yikes.

Think even PS3 era Kutaragi might have raised an eyebrow at this.

PlayStation Portal remote player will launch in select markets on November 15, 2023 and is now available for pre-order at direct.playstation.com in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Starting on September 29, 2023, PlayStation Portal remote player can also be pre-ordered from other select retailers in these countries, as well as Canada and Japan. Additional regional availability will be announced at a later date.

Don’t all rush at once.

I enjoyed the bit at the end of the video of the couple completely ignoring each other in the same room. Living the dream.

Interested to hear how well it works once people get hands on time with it.

Just had another thought - imagine how ridiculous a travel case for this thing is going to be with that shape! Switch is a nice, compact, uniform design, so easy to create a case for it or even just to slide into a regular bag nicely and feel confident. But this thing has such a quietly outline and the controller bulk is going to make it so cumbersome to travel with if you do decide to use it for remote WiFi play away from home

What's odd is they aren't pushing this aspect in the marketing. That advert above implies home play only and very little of the literature they've put out talks about playing away from home.

It does seem it will work based on the FAQ on the website but they really aren't pushing the remote WiFi play away from home at all.

Problem is, if you are away from home you need someone to turn your PS5 on to actually use it  not great for a portable device used for travelling.

Can you not leave it in rest mode and it will come on automatically? If not, that's a huge fail

This is how it works when doing remote play locally - it sends the PS5 a wake up signal. I assume the same happens when doing it over the internet but I've never actually tried it

The vita worked like that. I tried it once on a weekend away and thankfully had set the ps4 to turn off after an hour of inactivity, because it worked for a bit then lost connection and wouldn't recconect, meaning the console would have been sat running a game all weekend.

Luckily that's not a problem now as the PS5 doesn't have any games to run!

I run an app on my SD that allows me to remote play my PS5. That sends a wake up packet to the console, but only if it is on the same WiFi network.

I can also map gyro controls to the SD pad (or a spare PS5 controller if I have my Deck hooked up to a monitor), allowing me to use gyro game for ANY game.

So if this product appeals to you at all, buy a SD.

Yeah I've been using my Deck for Remote Play for a while and it's a great experience.

What app are you using kaz? I'm on one called Chiaki and it's pretty decent

Every time I see this thread, I think it says Portable and is about a PSP revival.

Yep, Chiaki. I have been enabling gyro with the left trigger full depress to activate gyro. Seems to work lovely, even with the latency from streaming.

I did have to change the codec from the default ps5 one to the other one on offer, as I was seeing a white flash on the screen every so often. Changing the codec seems to have sorted it.

This thing is a bit of a joke, I'm positive it will be DOA. Sony really is knocking it out of the park at the moment... Twats.

Yeah I changed the codec up as well, seems to give a more reliable image.

I've not managed to get gyro working on mine, how did you configure that? I've also struggled with the dualsense touchpad functionality - I can map clicking it to an input fine but haven't found a way to get taps/gestures working

For the gyro I jaunt mapped it so that L2 hard press enables gyro and then in the settings make sure that it is seeing gyro “as joystick” and that it is controlling the right stick.

I have not had much luck with the touch pad beyond being able it to control the mouse pointer so I can send the wake up packet easily.

Just in case anyone is interested in pre-ordering this, but didn't want to do so through the Sony store, listings have gone live today on other sites - Amazon and Game, for example.
