Sony Rewards: PlayStation Trophies can now be exchanged for credit in the US

Announced by Sony (as spotted by DualShockers), the Sony Rewards system now allows players to register their achievements in return for a little kickback. Here's how your Trophies break down in to points:
- Bronze - strawberry float ALL
- 100 Silver trophies – 100 points
- 25 Gold trophies – 250 points
- 10 Platinum trophies – 1,000 points
As you might expect, the payoff here isn't gigantic - 1,000 points breaks down to $10 of credit, meaning it'd take a whole lot of playtime to afford your regular AAA game.
Sony Rewards is a US-only incentive, so other territories may well not get the same benefit - we've contacted Sony to ask if that will be the case.
PlayStation fans in Australia did get their own real-life Trophy incentive recently... in the form of real-life Trophies.

I think MHTL would get crippled with a system like this, though - Only trophies obtained after the service goes live are redeemable for vouchers.

Bad idea, if game companies want to sell their gooseberry fool game they just make all the trophies easy to pick up. That or games that have hard to get trophies may opt for an easier system.

The value is so poor it may as well not exist. I think they should have gone a club nintendo route with it instead.

I read somewhere (or possibly made this up) that this DEFINITELY won't be coming to Xbox platform, so for us PS3/PS4/Vita owners it is all good.

That is strawberry floating stingy though, 10 platinums for $10. I think I had 7 at the last count so in about 3 years, I would have earned that lovely $10.
This is like those arcades of old (that very few on here will remember) where you got tickets from the various games and when you went with your stack of tickets it was enough to get a pencil eraser or some such gooseberry fool.

I've been playing a bunch of mediocre games recently purely to get platinum trophies so this sounds appealing however my 30 odd platinums netting me a meagre $30 sounds a bit crap to be honest.

They still have those, I won a couple of Nerf guns and a Thor Pez dispenser on a recent trip to Blackpool.

A lot of completed PlayStation games wouldn't count for much if anything since some don't have a platinum trophy. In fact I think some may even only have bronze which are entirely worthless in this scheme.

This is what I assumed 'gamerscore' was before I owned an Xbox 360. I was very confused about all the fuss over achievements when I found out the points were worthless.

You get $10 for every 600 completed Xbox games.
