Wipeout was the best and most consistent franchise Sony had, in my opinion. Wipeout HD was excellent.

Fairly certain any of their Japan studios could just sit twiddling their thumbs for five years and they still wouldn't be closed down.

Don't worry, they'll farm the franchise out someone sooner or later.

Coming soon; Destruction Derby: Vengeance, a viscerally gritty shooter from Sony Computer Entertainment. You are John Destruction, a disgraced jockey on the hunt for revenge. His quest will take him from his hometown of Derbyville to the sinister megacorp guarded by the infamous Suicide Squaddies. PEGI 18 for graphic anal penetration and non-fucking-stop swearing. Also, lots of bloom.

Who paid for it, Sony.

No it was my mate's funeral. He was art director (or something) on Wipeout Pulse and Wipeout HD. He was made redundant last year, but a lot of Sony developers turned up- they'd all been given the morning off which, with hindsight, wasn't as nice a gesture as we all thought it was.

I worked for Psygnosis back in the 90s as it happens.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Worst thing to happen to Liverpool since Hillsborough. :fp:

*sigh* apart from Team ICO, the only other Sony franchise I liked.

It's just the way things are going these days.

That rule out a Wipeout for PS4?

They really were the king of the PSone back in the day.

In my view Wipeout 2048 is also quite comfortably one of the best titles on Vita, too.

How about The Last Guardian, how is that coming along?

The sooner Sony go bankrupt or bow out of video games the better.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I remember the days when having that logo on the box was enough for me to buy a game without reading the review, such was their quality output.

I was the same back in the day. They really did come up with a hell of a lot of top quality games.

Do we know what the official reasoning is for them being closed down or being "reorganised"? Is this Sony cutting costs? Did their games not make enough money for Sony's liking? To turn up to work one day and have the stuff you'd been working on for months and months on end cancelled and possibly be told that you'll be out of a job really must be hard to take.

Specifically Sony. Japanese games industry is irrelevant these days.

That's sad news.

I thought the had done that ages ago though? or did the merge two together?

are Evolution OK still?

Sad sign of the times, even Sony having to shut down studios and rationalise for lower earnings.

In other news: I think Sony might be quietly killing Vita too.

if sales stay as they are then even they will be facing the axe at some point but it does seem wrong they get to piss about whilst others are slashed after being really productive.
