PostNew DualShock 4? Model CUH-ZCT2U
by Venom » Sun Aug 21, 2016 10:18 pm

I have no idea on the reliability of the source of Portuguese site Outer Pixel, but there are some pics of the purported updated DualShock 4. It looks like somebody at Sony was inspired by the brilliant 360 controller, so they decided to squash the DS4 into it. Looks a bit squat, reminds me of the overbearing controller for the Atari Jaguar!

Translation of their tweets

That 4 new Dualshock registered in the FCC a few weeks ago? The CUH MAN-ZCT2U is real, but almost identical to the current.

All this comes straight out of the Anatel. This new model of the Dualshock's already registered there

The manual also reveals that, apparently, in addition to the color of the triggers nothing else changes. Same weight, same battery.

Apparently this is the model that was approved back in June by the FCC. (Federal Communications Commission).

From DualShockers.com
The Federal Communications Commission published the first documents related to a new model of the DualShock 4 controller, with the product code “CUH-ZCT2U.”
You can see the label below, and the spec sheet at the bottom of the post. The new controller has the same weight, the same power supply voltage and battery amperage as the previous three iterations registered by the FCC. The only visible difference in the specs is the Bluetooth antenna. That said, there is one difference in the code that stands out.

All DualShock 4 models since the release of the PS4 used the CUH-ZCT1 code, excluding special editions like the Star Wars one, that have a completely different code. This is the first model that makes a digit jump from the original, moving from “ZCT1” to “ZCT2,” possibly indicating the first major revision of the controller.

At the moment, the analysis of the documentation didn’t turn up further information, which is understandable, considering that the FCC certifies only a piece of hardware’s radio equipment.

Ridiculous if true.

So what exactly would be the point of the redesign? It looks slightly different but thas it? :|

So they've basically filled in the middle and made it look hugely less comfortable and more difficult to hold?

I thought it had filled the space between the two prongs with plastic, (like the Jaguar controller) but a quick bit of amateur photoshopping and... nope. They're just shadows.

Image

The prongs look shorter and slightly more curved inward, but even that may be a trick of the light.

On one of the tweeted pics the triggers looked to be housed *inside* the pad chassis, but then a profile shot reveals that isn't the case either. The gap between the two L and R buttons and their respective triggers looks to be the same, too. (My thinking being they may have redesigned the backend to solve the borked triggers issue, or something.)

My guess is this will be the official pad they pack in with the slim/Neo, and that for some reason it needs a new a model number. *shrug*

SoK, clever spot! I thought it was filled in too.
Also has better bluetooth, but I never had any problems with this.

The only problem I have with the DS4 is the triggers touch the ground when you put the controller down, which often skips videos etc. If they changed that and swapped to USB type C it would be brilliant.

Easiest way to solve that is to let handle prongs touch ground/surface first so that when the triggers do they're more likely to be pressed against in a outward manner as opposed to being pressed inward and unintentionally activated. But yeah, that is annoying when it happens.

We had the excellent BR remote for the PS3, so never had that problem, but since the PS4 has been moved downstairs I have to be like a ninja to stop people (the wife, the dog, the baby) accidentally nudging the shoulder buttons when we're watching stuff.

The Mrs takes the piss out of me; reckons I'm obsessed with guarding the controller. :fp:

(Worst 'I've got a wife' post ever, IMO.)

What on earth is the point if they're not gonna improve the atrocious battery life? :|

Keeping an eye on the controller battery is a free game the whole family can enjoy why would you want to take away that extreme edge of your seat fun?
Chalky hates fun, confirmed. Can a mod edit that into his sig please.

WTF :slol:

So not only does it not have a new, much needed longer lasting battery, but they've added something to the DS4 which will help deplete it that much faster?!

I don't know why people are having such a hard time understanding this, but that front facing light will be an etching in the existing material which allows the lights from the front to be routed up another channel to shine out the top. It's the same lights, it doesn't use any more power.

I always thought the controller needed more light. Hopefully in a year or so the system software will allow us to dim it a bit :datass: .

:P Ta for the explanation, though. Not that it would really bother me all that much anyway as I have two or three spare, original DS4's. Despite that though, I don't think it's the best idea to have additional lights on DS4, even re-routed light, as other than battery life I also hate how the DS4 illuminates rooms I want staying dark. So yeah, still not the best idea.

You can already dim the light to near matte levels.

Not nearly enough. I still have to cover it up with a piece of card to get it satisfactorily dark.
