This is hands down the most visually impressive demo possible in the Oculus Rift right now! Seriously, if you have a rift, STOP RIGHT NOW AND PLAY THIS. There's not much else to say. This is no question the most beautiful Rift demo to this day. I can't wait to see this with the DK2/Consumer Rifts!

Valve's looks like it was designed by Betty Boop.

Every time someone posts in this thread I get my hopes up thinking we have a release date. But nope.

#delayedto2015

But seriously, this won't be launching until next year. Hopefully they have some new games/demos to show off at E3.

One of the reasons they used to justify selling it to Facebook was so they could speed up the launch process. I hope Sony or Oculus announce something.

Neither will announce any release schedule at E3, they'll both have a show floor presence with games/demos, but don't expect any hardware announcements.

2015 is the year of VR, be patient.

http://time.com/2881482/interview-ninte ... l-reality/

We’ve been doing our own experiments with virtual reality dating back to the Virtual Boy. And even to some degree, the 3DS was designed with a little bit of this in mind with its stereoscopic 3D. So we’re always looking at hardware and assessing what’s possible.

And of course we understand that the hardware and technology have begun to drop in price. It’s still not at a cost basis that makes it easy for everyone to purchase as a mass-market product. But certainly it’s dropped somewhat.

As game designers, we at Nintendo are interested in VR technology and what it can do, but at the same time what we’re trying to do with Wii U is to create games for everyone in the living room. We want the Wii U to be a game system that brings video gamers into the living room. As as I explained last night [Sunday, June 8], it’s intended to be fun not only for the person who’s playing, but also for the people who are watching.

When you think about what virtual reality is, which is one person putting on some goggles and playing by themselves kind of over in a corner, or maybe they go into a separate room and they spend all their time alone playing in that virtual reality, that’s in direct contrast with what it is we’re trying to achieve with Wii U. And so I have a little bit of uneasiness with whether or not that’s the best way for people to play.

So from Nintendo’s perspective, there’s interest in the technology, but we think it might be better suited to some sort of attraction style of entertainment, say something at a video game arcade or things like that, rather than something that one person plays alone.

Where as Wii U is someone sitting in the corner playing on the console's only gamepad :fp:

The demo was a reconstruction of the Wall, and you rode the elevator to the top. (the booths that the rift was setup in were actual cages). For added effect they had cold air fans blowing in on you, and the cage actually rattled a bit too. Im not even kidding but i dont think ive ever felt anything like it, it was incredible. People were freaking out and grabbing the bars of the cage to steady themselves and gooseberry fool. It made me think of the stories of people in cinemas way back inth e day jumping out of their seats to avoid the pictures on screen. At one point, when you got to the top of the wall, a flurry of snow blows past you, i swear to go i reached out my hand to try and touch it. At the very end, you get shot with a flaming arrow and fall over the side of the wall, i had to fight my instinct to start grabbing at the cage  This gooseberry fool is the real deal, its next strawberry floating gen folks.

I know someone who really wanted to go there but it was sold out. He's going to love reading that when I link to him later. :slol:

I'd hazard a guess that it was DK1, they can't roll out DK2 soon enough, it's a drastic improvement in terms of image quality and motion tracking.

Oculus Agrees to Acquire Carbon Design Team

The Carbon team brings their expertise around building great feeling, great looking consumer products like the Xbox 360 controller. We’ve been working with Carbon for nearly a year on multiple unannounced projects.

Never knew Microsoft outsourced the design of the 360 controller.

Had a go on a dev kit 1 rift at goodwood. They had them on the Mercedes stand with it being a few flying laps of Silverstone with a camera mounted up to the left of a f1 car.

The resolution was awful :dread: , really really bad and I'm not convinced the footage was actually 3d as it didn't have the wow factor I was expecting. The headset was pretty much thrown on me so I could see light bleeding in the bottom and was really aware of the edges but once you got in to tracking objects with your head it felt really natural. As you went under a bridge I'd watch it go over and behind by turning around in my seat.

They really need to get DK2 out soon, DK1's resolution is really putting people off VR.

We've got a DK2 rift at work now :datass:

Had a go on some sea exploration thing and a roller coaster around a living room, both were brilliant.
