The headset and touch controllers are $399 in America for the next six weeks. I'm tempted to pick up a bundle if we get a similar offer as I'd like to wait until Vive 2.0 before picking up Valve's product.

BUT VR IS A FAD LIKE 3D TV I DONT WANT TO BE IN A FOOTBALL MATCH

I kind of want some form of headset just to look at the mirrors in racing sims.

i know you were on the fence before, just do it. Sounds like you play racing sims as much as me, and after having played with VR, I wont play one any other way. Yes the resolution is a bit gooseberry fool, but the immersion far outweighs those negatives. Couple it with a wheel, chair and a decent set of headphones and you can lose entire evenings hot lapping.

Im going away on holibobs at the end of the month so I need to keep my money. If they are reduced for 6 weeks I might wait for the tail end of that.

Even more the temptation is just to hold up for a V2 of whatever, but I havent heard anything from any of them about that.

I think of it this way, there will be a V2, it'll be much better but when is that coming? If I wasnt really bothered about it then i'd be happy to wait, but for me racing in VR is totally worth the early adopter tech and price. When V2 comes, i'll be buying that day one, and waiting for V3...

Yeah thats what I mean. Im not waiting indefinitely if I want one because then you literally wait forever. Im saying if I finally crack and think todays the day and then they announce V2 Ill hurt somebody. Seeing as Im already waiting for something compelling Im surveying all possible options.

If gen 2 of these headsets have inside-out tracking (no cameras/external sensors), 4K and are more affordable then I see them really taking off.

When comes to "Gen 2" for home VR I'd expect that we won't see it until they can get the tech they want down to the price points we're currently paying now. I can see some enhanced tracking, higher resolutions and reduced "screen door" effect being the upgrades for the next ones. But I'm not sure if we'll see 4K though. Not yet. If they were to come out even more expensive than the current ones it'll just keep VR as a niche and they really need to expand the market for this.

Getting them out at roughly the same price as Gen 1 headsets means they can pitch Gen 1 as the cheaper "entry level" product, while having Gen 2 as the "premium" product. Prices need to start coming down over the next couple of years to really push it into the mainstream. I think PSVR especially is going to be instrumental in that.

I've ordered the headset and controllers for £400 from Amazon :toot:

The controllers will be here on Friday but the headset might not show up until next week :(

GAME are doing the headset and controllers for £399 as well.
The only reason I mention them is that you can get 3% cashback with GAME from Quidco.

I'm tempted, but I'm not entirely sure my 970 is ideal for VR really so I doubt I'd get the most from it. Plus I've got a PSVR anyway and I can't really think of any PC exclusive VR games that I'd be willing to drop £400 for.

Make sure and get Star Trek Bridge Crew. It's crossplay with PSVR so you can play with us!

I didn't know it's cross platform, that's cool! Shame it's so expensive, and I don't have any friends.

Considering how power intensive 4k is for gaming and how VR doubles it I'm pretty sure it's going to need a stupidly beefy PC which just means you end up with the same problem of high cost being a barrier to entry.
I think the (I have no idea if this is even possible) best way would be to have 2k screens and use the fancy up-scaling used on consoles as this will just mean you only need a machine capable of running 4k which on pc is now becoming a lot more achievable.

I for instance don't imagine PSVR 2 will be 4k when linked to PS5 and that will have hardware from roughly a year from now. I'd rather have super stable and fancy looking 2k than bare bones and struggling like strawberry float 4k.

Welcome aboard :toot:

Had mine since launch and absolutely love the hardware even though I haven't used it a load recently, slightly gutted to see what a massive price drop it's had in such a short space of time but I suppose that comes with the territory of being an early adopter. If it brings more people on board with VR though that can only be a good thing. There are a few really good Oculus exclusives, Robo Recall and The Climb have both been stand out experiences for me and I picked up Wilsons Heart this week which I've heard really good things about. Robo Recall in particular is brilliant fun and quite possibly one of the prettiest games I've played in VR as well. If you buy the Windows 10 version of Minecraft you can also download the official Minecraft VR version which is really good.

Arizona Sunshine and Superhot VR are available on Steam and the Oculus Store and are probably my two stand out VR experiences.

I would triple dip on Minecraft if they added this for the PS4.
