No, once you've done Blighttown once it's never really a chore again. Tomb of Giants has been a thorn in my side every playthrough... so many souls lost :(

First time through I thought it was a proper 'mare. Mostly as I couldn't find the way out after killing Queelag so I spent ages wandering around getting poisoned.

Ive done it now, once I learned you could run away and up the stairs from those big guys with the clubs and they just fall off the side everything else was pretty easy :shifty:

Even the boss wasn't as bad as I expected.

WTF is that fire thing at the bottom though as that killed me with one hit! 8k Souls I wont see again

I really liked Blight town. Apart from the framerate, I thought it was a great area. Felt extremely tense venturing further into it. I made it from the first bonfire right down to the blight swamp bonfire without dying. I was so scared of losing all the souls I'd accrued.

Still not played this. Should I get Demon's Souls first, or just dive in to Dark?

I played Demon Souls first but there is no cross over story so doesn't matter which you play first tbh

I'd play Demon's first. Dark is much better and Demon's feels like a step back, especially if you played Dark on PC and you're used to the smooth framerate.

It took me a few moments to realise what you meant. That's Ceaseless Discharge. If you've rung both bells, you should go to Sen's Fortress instead. You'll eventually have to go there anyway even if you beat Ceaseless Discharge now as the way is blocked at some point until you do some other things.

I thought the Great Hollow and Ash Lake were incredibly brave pieces of design. They may be low on enemies and the Great Hollow is pretty broken in places, but the fact that the developers hid away such vast areas in such a flippant way was incredible. It's just another way that shows how Dark Souls is different. In other games, secret areas are usually hidden in plain sight as completion rewards, but this was hidden behind two illusory walls, with no clue given that the second one was behind that chest. My first play-through was pretty blind - I hit the first wall on the off-chance, and never even thought to hit the wall behind the chest. The chest was the traditional videogame signal that screamed "REWARD HERE", making you stop hunting for secrets.

Anyway, you manage to survive the Great Hollow descent and you get down to the bottom of Lordran and you are rewarded with a subtly beautiful area with haunting music, that connects all of the areas in Dark Souls.

That lake.

All those trees.

All those branches.

You noticed a lot of branches in all the other areas, right?

Kinda thought Ash Lake was a bit pointless. Admittedly I may have missed some stuff there, all I found was a massive hydra and a dragon god.

I think Ash Lake is supposed to be a remainder of the world before the age of fire with the grey crags, archtrees and everlasting dragon you find there.

I thought it was a cool area, it just lacked polish so felt a bit tacked on. I liked the feeling of being under the world, and the dragon unfurling his wings at the end was dripping in atmosphere. Just comparing it to somewhere like undead burg and it comes across as an afterthought. They could have left both areas out of course and I wouldn't have found them had I not read they existed.

Might go back to some earlier areas and see if I missed anything later

Been mopping up some bits I'd missed, just beat Pricilla and Dark Sun Gwyndolin.

I remember how at first I thought Gwyndolin to be impossible to defeat as he kept wiping the floor with me before I could even touch him then suddenly after a tonne of deaths I got him down to about half HP before I bit the dust. It was a total "If it bleeds we can kill it" moment. Sure enough a couple more tries and he was dead.

Fuuuuuck I can't see how I'm going to beat manus :dread:

Right with my smoug armour on I've had him down to just over half health, but I'm not quick enough to dodge properly. So if I use my light stuff I can dodge but usually die if I get hit once.

Oh and that summon is absolutely useless :simper:

Took me a couple of tries but I soon realised I could hide behind the side pillars until it was safe to come out and have a few hits.

Manus is a bastard, but if he's one shotting you it might be worth coming back once you've got some more HP. It took me forever to beat him with light armour, but I don't think I could have done it without taking any damage. I was down to a sliver of health and no estus. :dread:

I'm sure it's possible to beat him without taking damage at all, but it's not going to be easy.
