Thinking about it, it would have been cool to have to climb up and over the wall rather than be down up there. Maybe a blighttown style scaffold that you make your way up with getting to the top the reward.

Also I didn't get hit once by those archers.

Yeah, this would be a great idea to connect the two. Rickety scaffolding hanging over a death drop, maybe even a few undead soldiers thrown into the mix. I always thought being carried off by those demons was utterly stupid. The game is at its strongest when the world is interconnected, it makes exploration way more interesting to me.

I would really love a remake of the game with more time allocated to design stuff like this. Fix and make better Lost Izalith and the various locations at the end of the game.

Ah bollocks. I had one go at O&S - almost killed Smough but got greedy and tried to thwack him a bit more with low health and paid the price.

But then, I accidentally lured some knights back to the bonfire and took a swipe out of Solaire. So now I have to go raise 40,000 souls in order to absolve my sins. Can't grind the silver knights though as he's around and I'm scared I might kill him.

Made it all the way back to Oswald too, to check the price, but the enemies are too weak here to grind. Guess I could go to the catacombs and grind for a bit.

Balls, going to take awhile. As I know have to go back as I'm going away tomorrow for five days. strawberry float my life.

Quickest way to earn souls would be to out your summon sign outside a boss room.

Try and kill Ornstein first. It may take more time, but I find it easier to do it this way. He has a fast, lunge attack where he covers a huge distance in next to no time. If he does this and you dodge it, sometimes you can leave him vulnerable and it'll take a bit of time for Smough get to where you both are.

The most important thing in this fight is backpedalling and picking the right time to strike. A fire weapon really helps, I used Queelag's Fury Sword. Or a Black Knight Sword is killer.

Do you have to be human to stick a summon sign down/be summoned? If not I will thwack one down near the Gargoyles as I'm near there now.

Do I lose my souls if I die when summoned?

Also, I want to kill Smough last so I get his soul. I eventually plan to go for the platinum I think (I want to do NG+ anyway) and have heard it's harder to kill them the other way round. Thought I'd do it in the vanilla game.

Think I can manage it, as my BKS was tearing Smough up quite easily, but I just got too risky with my heals trying to finish him quickly. Ornstein's spear is a pain in the arse though, as it reduces your safe space. Need to keep them behind pillars or quite far away, waiting for Smough to ground pound.

You don't have to be human form to summon and you won't lose your souls if you die.

You probably won't be able to find anyone these days though. Either that or the connection will fail. It's a pretty broken feature, or at least it was on 360.

I killed 6 bosses in DS1 with 2/3 other players back in the day, worked fine.

Is that fine or Master Chief Collection fine?

BKS is kickass in this fight, if you have one of those, you are flying.

I don't know if you've been there yet, but heading to the Catacombs and beating Pinwheel makes the S&O fight somewhat easier (by way of granting you a new ability).

It was the same on PS3 and PC too.

etc.

It was because they switched from using multiplayer servers to peer-to-peer.

Summoning on PS3 was usually hit and miss at best. Sometimes I could farm Sunbro medals for an hour or two at a time getting summoned for the Belfry Gargoyles but other times it just wouldn't work, or by the time you spawned in the host's game they'd be dead already.

It was a great feature but yes it hardly ever worked.

Managed to beat O+S on my first go. My two handed BKS attack made short work of them. The first part was fairly simple as long as you were aware of where Ornstein was when I baiting Smough to attack. If he did that running attack, he'd actually come towards you and give you a bit of space.

Massive Ornstein was a bit of a pain - the second time I died, it was because of that one where he hits you and then on the second swipe it lifts you into the air.

For the most part though, his increased size actually makes him easier. He became a bit like a Bloodborne enemy and it was fairly easy to get behind him or under his legs. Actually, I won in a bit of a cheap way, as I rolled right between his legs and managed to expend a full stamina bar of 2h attacks on to his crotch and he just sort of swiveled on the spot trying to get at me. His ground pound was fairly easy to exploit as long as you didn't get greedy.

Saying that, I think I am somewhat overlevelled (level 80) so I don't think I got the same torturous experience many got by doing it a few levels lower. Wonder what they are like in NG+. Will need to kill Smough last next time.

I didn't find NG+ or beyond that much different from my first time through the game. The only boss I feel got a significant increase in difficulty is Four Kings who I found became nigh impossible to beat without certain Pyromancies.

4kings is like the anti-dark souls boss, as its much harder to tank hits and rely on cautious play as those bastards keep multiplying. it becomes trivial once your dps is above a certain level. has great potential (dat void arena :datass: ) but ruined by the mechanics i feel.

The only way I could kill them in later playthroughs was to use Power Within, spam 2 handed attacks and heal whenever I got an opening. Witch Beatrice is canny handy first time through but she is useless on NG+ and beyond.

Guess which idiot took off that Artorias ring in the Abyss, when the Four Kings had less than a quarter of their health bar left. I thought once I was doing there I'd be fine and unneeded some extra stamina...

Fortunately managed to beat them, which is a relief as there's no bonfire down there. They weren't actually that hard if you wail on them in heavy armour.

Think I might be over-leveled due to being ultra cautious at times. Managed to take out Pinwheel in three regular hits. What a wuss.
