Urgh, Sen's Fortress is so annoying. So many silly, stupid, pointless deathless. Always my own fault too, from being impatient.

Wondering if I should take a break and go further into the Catacombs (got to the bonfire near Patches) or go to the New Londo Ruins and curse myself with that item.

Got to the Demon Ruins and Ceaseless Discharge's attacks were too annoying so I backed out. I'll head back there later.

I know that Sen's Fortress is where I'm "supposed" to go next, mind.

There are, er, alternative ways to kill Ceaseless Discharge. :shifty:

I'm guessing that's what the message "Try luring it out" is referring to. Might be able to beat it "properly" if I come back later anyway.

Part of me also wants to do some other areas first though, as I think that, from reading around the game a few years ago, the infamous O&S are coming up pretty soon, and if I do other areas first I might find them less of a roadblock.

Ah, I wasn't a massive fan of it. I mean, it was okay, and most of my annoyance was done to my own stupid errors or trying to rush through. But things like the boulder trap randomly resetting when you were walking about was a bit of a pain. You'd turn it one way and then a minute or so later a massive rock would come bundling down a corridor that was supposedly clear.

It also was quite simple in design I thought, and a (largely) linear path to the top. The Iron Golem boss I beat first time too, with only one Estus and with one flamebomb throwing guy peppering me with explosions as I went through the boss door accidentally and didn't clear the surrounding area first. Weirdly, the Golem just seemed to stop attacking once I got him down to half health. Just seemed permanently staggered.

Not a bad area by any means, but not one of my favourites.

I prefer the levels that loop back on themselves a bit more and have a bit more about them visually. Like Yharnam's twisted gothic streets, or Undead Burg/Parish's many connecting loops and shortcuts.

Sen's Fortress is largely just a dark set of brick corridors. There was never a time when I felt I was going off on a massive tangent or perhaps heading in a completely new direction or side area.

Part of this is problem due to being basically a vertical bridge between the world below and Anor Londo, so it has to be fairly linear.

That's where I am now, anyway, at the first bonfire. O&S must be just around the corner as I've seen their statues about the place...

With hindsight, it was such a brilliant boss fight. Makes you feel totally badass when they finally go down.

I was so close to taking them down first time....

But it's a great fight. Tough as nails, but so satisfying once you manage it.

I still haven't walked past the first chimera or whatever the strawberry float it is in AL.

Btw there's a point at which you can spam ceaseless discharge. When I played someone had marked it. That name still grosses me out.

I don't normally wish for remakes of games that I have on PC but I'd buy a PS4 version of this on day one just to engage in more jolly co-operation :toot:

Just gone back to the this after a lengthy hiatus. I don't know what it is about this and Bloodborne but I just keep on coming back.

I spent some time reacquainting myself with the world and remembered that I'd stopped just after getting to Blighttown. I know this isn't very far into the game but I'm amazed at how much I remember after such a long time away. I guess the hours of pain must have scarred my brain.

Also, strawberry float Blighttown.

I'm up to Anor Londo. I bloody did the archers part first time, and died without resting at the bonfire. Then had to do it all again and kept getting twatted off the ledge. Wasn't a particularly fair part of the game.

I'm not actually enjoying Anor Londo that much, considering some have said it's the high point of the game. It pales a little in comparison to the inter-connectedness and variety of other parts of the game world. It looks nice and I get it is supposed to be empty, but it isn't particularly interesting to walk around once you've seen a few of the vistas.

I also much prefer the parts of the Souls games that connect organically and are traversed by the player themselves, rather than the detached warp levels which sort of feel bonus stage-y.

I know what you mean about it being disconnected from everything else, but I love Anor Londo. It was the first time the scale of the game really became apparent for me, you'd explored all of the first 'world' as it were, and yet here's an entirely different one for you to explore. The tone, the architecture and the enemies within are all so different to what had come before that it just presents a different challenge to what had come before. Not to mention it's stunning to look at, even now.

As for the archers, I was killed by them once in three playthroughs. The same amount of times as I was killed by Pinwheel. Go figure.

I mean, I wasn't killed that many times by them - probably about half a dozen or so. It was more that I'd already got to the bonfire and then had to do it again. And also, it's one of those rare times when you feel like the game is stacking the decks against you a little bit. Sometimes you can get hit through the level geometry and get knocked off. Of course, this is nothing new, as most players often try and hit enemies the same way too.

For me, Anor Londo would have been better had you made the journey there yourself, especially if you had emerged from the claustrophobic darkness and intimidation of Sen's Fortress and suddenly seen the whole place in a more organic way, rather than effectively fast traveling there on a warp point.

I dunno, I think the theatre of being carried away on that giant dragon bird thing suits a place like Anor Londo. It's massive anyway, surely if it was in close proximity you'd gave seen it wandering around Undead Parish?

I hope it's not going to seriously affect your enjoyment though, warping about much becomes more frequent as the game goes on.
