Dual, try to parry. :simper:

For the Lautrec fight, just kill the mage guy as fast as you can. If you do decent damage you should be able to nearly kill him in just a few hits, before the other guys come there. The spear guy can be parried, and Lautrec can be kicked like all normal enemies. If not, you could try being aggressive and two-hand your weapon and just stun-lock him.

Or, you can just concentrate everything you have on Lautrec. Like a normal invasion, you don't need to kill his white phantoms to win.

I never saw the whole invasion into Lautrec land on my play through, I think it was because I smashed him up as soon as I saw him.

If I spare him on my NG+ run through will I automatically see this whole invasion part? or do I need to do something like take the Helmet of sighing to Clunge Forest and on the 2nd set of ladders use the potion of blunder to summon etc.

No you just let him live and ring the two bells. He then kills the girl and strawberry floats off to his home planet.

Cool, cheers.

I'll sell the "Helmet of Sighing" then.

You have zero idea how apt that dread smiley is. The drop rate is ridiculously small. I farmed it for three days (three or four 2 hour sessions per day) and saw all of one slab despite the fact I had a v high item discovery rate. On the plus side the wraiths are easy to kill. Good luck with it. Oh and you may want to check online to see you've got the locations of every wraith as there are a few "hidden" ones.

edit: apologies if you already knew of this.

Ooh, almost there. That's tonight's goal then.

Also, the GameTrailer's review said this was open world but so far it's been fairly linear. Does it open up at any point?

It's not a huge open world like GTA or RDR. While the game world is small (compared to open world games) you are pretty much free to go where you want to... maybe that's what they meant by open.

How far into it are you? It is technically open world, it's all one big map with areas connected via shortcuts and stuff like Super Metroid. This video of the 3D map viewer demonstrates it well:

Having the master key as your chosen starter item lets you get to some areas earlier and easier.

Open world means that you're free to explore as you wish and aren't confined to one path. You saw this when you went to the Catacombs instead of the Undead Burg. At the start there's also the option to go to New Londo Ruins or, if you chose the Master Key when creating your character, the Valley of Drakes, Blighttown and Darkroot Basin/Garden..

Did Laurtec and the bosses. Back to my NG+ swagger. I wish I put more points in Strength instead of Dex.

Actually I'm half tempted to start a new character once I've finished this playthrough.

Curse lifted, stocked up on curse removing things.

Going to go back and finish off the catacombs first before tackling the depths again.

Tomb of the Giants, baby skeletons and pinwheels. More annoying than difficult as the baby skeletons keep popping up. It's a good thing I've got Astora's Straight Sword +5.

No need for a divine weapon in the Tomb of the Giants...
