Took me a long time to wrap my head around the whole 'you're supposed to die' and that, but once I did I learned the mechanics and timings and rules of the world and Im really progessing.

Ive killed Taurus (second try), downstairs knight after a few goes, gargoyles (first try), Havel after a couple of goes and a few more. I really can see what you all see in it now, Im a convert. Taking a break as all the new areas seem too scary and Im a bit tired. Next play Im going to try and get the black knight on the tower.

:D

Enjoy it mate.

Yeah I just looked it up and I must have used it up while playing given that it's not in my inventory anymore. No biggie, on to the next one!

Warrior.

The Longsword is amaze. It require a hefty stat investment to get going, but it has such a good moveset!

For anyone that doesn't know: 27 strength and 40 dexterity is the most efficient for the longsword, as it has a C scaling in both. There is a soft-cap for weapon scaling at 40, and two-handing weapons multiplies your effective strength by 1.5.
Also, it has some great combos: The two-handed RB to RT (R1 to R2 on PS3) is my favourite, it's really quick, and the rolling R1 is the all important thrusting attack. It also has a thrusting attack while one-handed, and the follow-up is really stylish. 8-)

And when you have the stats for the Longsword, you also have the best stats for weapons like
the Claymore/Bastard Sword, Murakumo, Washing Pole, Zweihander/Greatsword etc etc. Also the hardest-hitting bow in the game: the Composite Bow. Other cool weapons to try is the Warpick (try that with the Leo-ring.....), Gargoyle Tail Axe is actually a good weapon with those stats (great range for an axe), Lucerne, the list goes on!.

You also have all the needed Dex if you want to try out other Katanas, Rapiers, Spears, Daggers etc.

I'll leave that in the box so I don't spoil all the surprises for everyone. ;)

It's cool later on when they are regular enemies.

Yeah, but your equipment is much more powerful by that time, so you can easily take two on at once.

Could be worse, at one point curses stacked so you could end up with 1/16 of your health I believe.

 Literally as soon as I posted that I went back and tried again. I finally managed to dash up the stairs and kill the dogs so I could use soul magic on the Capra. Before that I would always be killed trying to run up there; I couldn't even block the Capra's attack when I walked into the area using my shield!

This morning I went further into the Depths but fell down a hole and seemed to be wandering around the sewers aimlessly. I used a homeward bone to get me back to a bonfire so I could level up before I try to navigate what appears to be a labyrinth.

I got curious. I'm definitely not doing that when I go back. I want to play more but I have so much to do and it's really sunny which makes it harder to play anyway.
