What I mean is with the core of the story which is the Mr Negative stuff, I feel like I missed a cut scene somewhere because it never seemed to bother explaining what his motivations were and some of his actions seem to just be evil for the sake of being evil. I don't even know what he was trying to do, take over the city? The whole thing is so basic it's like it came out of a cartoon. In what way would releasing that Devil's Breath have helped him achieve whatever he was trying to do anyway?
I don't really understand why it's that way as they clearly have the capability to write something with a bit more meat to it in what I meant by the side stuff. The Dr Octopus plotline has been very well done throughout, building him to be a sympathetic character all with the impending sense of dread as he goes of the rails. When he finally got the suit on and the controller shakes with every tentacle hit of the ground it's just a fantastic moment and he's suddenly this really imposing villain.
I'm not sure you are as close to the end as you think. If you are, you've definitely missed something.
I'm at the very end now, and I'd say its a good comic book story, it sets up their version of Spider-Man really well. If there's one thing to mention about the game that might be negative, it's that it's heavily influenced by the Arkham games, to a point where there are things in the game that flat out wouldn't have been there if Arkham didn't exist. Not sure if that's really a negative thing or not, it doesn't do things badly by any means, its just slightly derivative.
As most have said the sheer joy of the movement system is definitely the highlight, but I'd put the story overall a close second (especially if you include the world they've built around the story). Those two things elevate the game.
