I find I have most success choosing a mid-range gun weapon like the Splattershot (not the Jr., which is short-range) or the N-Zap and trying to keep my distance. The game can be a bit of a coin-toss at close range so I try to avoid it.

Cheers to Qikz, Karl and anyone else I've played from here so far, we've had some tremendous matches :toot:

------------------------------------

So this is odd...all of a sudden, during the lobby the game's lighting seemed to wildly glitch out, leading to this disco fever craziness:

Exploring the hub thereafter also had a bunch of weird visual glitches:

Not sure if the cartridge somehow got shifted slightly, can't imagine what else could've caused it...certainly hope it's not my Switch D:

Play with some people from here and watch/learn from how they play. IMO that's the best way!

Huh, so if you were wondering what happens if you disconnect too many times, it's a 5 minute timeout.

A perfect interval for me to restart my modem for the eighth time.

Sleep mode on the Switch is a godsend. No having to watch that unstoppable cutscene about the current stages every time you start the game like you did in the Wii U version.

Thanks to this I've been using my Switch docked for the first time in months. Annoyingly, however, the heat has caused little bubbles to form under the bottom right corner of my glass screen protector which are steadily migrating further up each day.

Treat ink as cover for strafing around opponents while submerged in combination with right stick control, PC FPS style, and don't play offensively unless you've mastered aiming.

Swim and jump across ink lanes and play with verticality by painting walls and swimming directly up them to reach higher ground and cut past skirmishes and bottlenecks.

The fast boots and fast swim abilities as well as Ninja Squid (can't be seen swimming in health) are good for this. You get those on boots and T-shirts.

If you want to play aggressively to push lanes and open them up for your team, use a weapon with a reasonable rate of fire and power like a Splattershot or Splattershot Pro or 52 Gal.

If you want to be agile use the fast weapons.

If you want to camp and defend use a missile type weapon like a deco blaster or luna blaster, or a splatterscope, but don't do that.

Find some gear with a defensive attribute (googles for example) and level that up, if defense is the main attribute for a piece of gear, that piece is more likely to upgrade with additional defence buffs and different brands of gear are weighted towards certain buffs. For example the black leather stuff (forget the name) and some military looking stuff was always defence and bomb distance etc in splatoon 1.

I played tactically with speed and essentially circling tactics but you'll find your own play style. For example I enjoyed using bombs and carpet bombing people quite a lot.

Another hint I read here or maybe elsewhere, was to permanently hold down the left trigger (or whichever one submerges you in ink). You'll automatically pop out when shooting anyway, so I always keep it held down and tap the shoot button.

I've found it's helped a lot in firefights. I had a tendency to stay in Inkling form too much and often run out of ink in the middle of something, and this technique makes it much safer and quicker getting about.

Yeah, basically stay in the ink most the time and when the swim/pop/shoot/bunnyhop/swim/strafe/pop/shoot etc. pattern clicks you really get a feel for the game and it's glorious.

Also practice swim jumping, it can get you out of a lot of tough spots.

Even swimming in the wrong colour ink essentially gives you a duck which makes you a much smaller target.

Splatoon is a stealth stealth game.

Since getting this I've noticed just how badly my left joycon suffers with the disconnect issue. Is the only way to resolve it to log a support case with Nintendo or something and send it off to them?

I'm afraid so, unless you really want to mod the controller's innards yourself.

Any idea how long they normally take?

I think it's around a couple of weeks. I have the issue, too - ended up buying myself a Pro Controller to keep me going when I send the joycons off.

Question regarding the abilities, do they get more powerful the more you have on your clothes? eg: If I have the quick ink refill ability on my top and shoes, would that make it refill quicker than just having one on my top?

Join us from 9pm tonight (BST) for the first GRcade Splatoon 2 Wednesday.

I'll be on just before 9pm, so join on me (send me/accept my friend request if you haven't already). We'll kick off with a bit of Turf War (I need the cash and XP!), and if we get enough players we could move into a private battle.

Until then, stay fresh (or don't get cooked, stay off the hook – whichever you prefer)!

Yes, the abilities stack. And the main ability for any clothing item is a lot more effective than the 3 other "sub" slots. So if you really want/need that effect wear an item of clothing with that as its main effect. I tend to treat the sub-slots as top-ups/bonuses. There was some trouble in the first game with people re-rolling (which you can do later) slots on gear to get 3 lots of defence (4 including the main effect) and stuff like that, but its hard to get that. That's a bitch to kill. Japanese players do it the most.

It's good because you don't have to micromanage. You get what you wear.

I used quick refill and ink capacity a lot so I could push back and basically never run out of ink/ammo by swimming most of the time.

Another little known fact - the star rating for clothes is just how rare/expensive they are and how many slots they come with (1 star 1 sub slot, 2 star 2, 3 star 3). But 2 and 3 star gear takes longer to unlock abilities for those slots - significantly longer. They are NOT any more powerful. So when you get the ability to add slots to existing gear with sea snails (earned in splatfests), if you do that to 1 star gear it actually unlocks a lot faster and this way you can get fully upgraded gear without spending as much time in game or wear some early gear you like without any drawbacks. It gives you a reason to continue using old gear. So don't just buy the most expensive clothes.

I'm up for splatooning at 9, but I have no idea how to join friend multiplayer? Will I need to use the app?

No, there's a join friends option in game.
