Sponsor Henke and help the soldiers. This shizz is win-win.

In June I'm going to compete in an endurance hike - 52 miles over 24 hours. I need your help to raise enough money to make this a go-er.

http://fundraising.soldierscharity.org/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=434019

What separates this from just another tin-rattling plea is that this one comes with a twist. Should GRCade contribute a sum equal to or greater to that raised by my friends and family I will allow myself to be sponsored by your disgusting selves and will hike it up dressed in the site logo complete with a slogan of your choice (to be decided by GRcade's most generous donator).

Help a brother out.

Is there a deadline for pledges?

Also, the slogan should definitely be "I guess I thought it was a hike-thru".

As far as I know I have up until the event starts in mid June to raise the cash.

You'd need to log the event, video diary, pics etc. for mega post

You need to highlight the benefit to us bit more. I wasn't going to donate but NOW I DEFINITELY WILL.

Come on GR! I want to see a 'just masturbate furiously, then they'll go away' (or whatever the strawberry float it is) on this chap's back for 52 miles.

GRcade: gooseberry fool on her tits

This is a terrible idea buddy. :slol:

Why are you helping soldiers? Don't you pay them?

Exactly, I shall be at your mercy should the conditions be met.

A full write up is also guaranteed regardless of you lot's performance. Saying that, you're responsible for 10% of my goal and 100% of my pledges so far (although I've yet to pimp this to folk properly yet). I'm terrified that I'm going to end up exposing 52 miles of Perthshire to a blown up photo of MCN or something though. :dread:

Manny - I don't pay taxes. Maybe this is a guilt thing or something - who knows?

Henke 52 miles over 24 hours seems pretty tough. Why is this cause important?

Why not ask the mod team to get this thread temporarily stickied so the whole forum can notice it? I don't know if they will agree but you're a long time veteran so it's worth a shot.

When and where are you doing it? ( No I have not clicked the link yet).

Edit: I think I donated wrongly :fp: Someone somewhere has just got £5.

So cif you're doing this click 'Sponsor Me' and not 'Make a Direct Donation.'

Will I ever learn to do things correctly?

Don't worry Huw, there's a donation there now anyway. Much appreciated.

Why am I doing it? Aside from the benevolent factor of doing some good for once I see it as a way to stick the middle finger up at a number of health problems that have been an issue since I had an unfortunate botched operation a few years ago now. I see no down side, other than for my feet. :)

It on the 15/16th of June and it's in hills of Perthshire.

I'll donate to this. I trekked 100km over the South Downs back in 2011, so I know this is quite a task you're letting yourself in for.

All the best Henke, and just be aware, the night sections will be the hardest. Psychologically, it strawberry floats you up good and proper, so take some high caffeine snacks (I had chocolate coated coffee beans, and got through about four 200g bags,) to keep you as awake as possible, and bring some good music, too, because you can't guarantee anyone else will be up for talking their way through the night.

Is your team just the two of you, or are you buddying up with anyone else? I did mine in a team of four, and even then, two of them were at points on the verge of dropping out. Couldn't imagine doing something like this in a much smaller group, and even with the sheer number of people taking part, it doesn't take long for different groups to drift apart from one another.

Holy gooseberry fool, you guys have hit the £100 mark.

Knoyleo: I'm doing it with a good friend of mine. We're not expecting it to be easy, especially at night. Thanks for the advice though, and your generous donation. I do have slight doubts about his fitness for the yomp (and to a slightly lesser extent, my own) but we're already well into our training. 20 miles tomorrow which will be gradually building up as the day approaches. I hadn't actually considered the fact that I'll be spending 24 straight hours with the dude though. I may have to take some headphones.
