Pretty good list this year, I'd be happy with any of Strauss, Farah, Cavendish or McIlroy

Andy Murray? :fp:

I'm backing Mo Farah, his achievement this year was outstanding.

It has to be Cavendish for me. His achievements were totally out of this world. But mostly in France.

I feel sorry for Andy Murray, he had the best year of his career and did very well. He is a very good tennis player, he just came along when two (probably three) of the best Tennis players ever turned up.

Plus he's intensely unlikable.

Gotta be Darren Clark for me. Seems like a really nice guy and watching him winning the Open was brilliant. McIlroy comes over as being bit of a knob for me :?

I've always thought Strauss was a massive prick, to be honest.

Andy Murray is another Tim Henman. Nothing to be ashamed of though. Henman was a good player in his own right too.

He's much much better than Henman.

No he's not because he said he wanted the England football team to lose.

Of course, how could I forget :fp:

I'd bet good money on that being the source of Beans' feelings towards the chap

I went for Cook, simply because I'd probably go gay for him, (and he's been the consistent massive run-scorer that England have lacked for a while).

McIlroy probably deserves it most, but I'm just not into golf so couldn't bring myself to do it.

I think Mo Farah's been awesome, and it's tricky because his big year is undoubtedly next year - but he's hopefully going to have a lot of competition for this prize at the end of 2012.

Very strong line up this year.

Mo Farah, McIlroy, or Clarke for my money. If Farah doesn't win it this year, and can reproduce his achievements this year at the Olympics (maybe with a gold in the 10k as well) then he is nailed on to win in 2012.

I personally would like to see it go to Clarke.

"Some of Britain's leading sportswomen have criticised the absence of women from the BBC Sports Personality of the Year shortlist."

The list of 10 contenders was put together by a panel of 27 sports editors from national and regional newspapers and magazines.

Rebecca Adlington, who was one of those to miss out, expressed her dismay.

"There's been some great sportswomen like Keri-Anne Payne, it's sad they are not recognised," she said on Twitter.

"Hopefully next year can be all women nominations after London 2012."

Amir Khan (7) received the lowest number of votes of the top 10, one vote ahead of Rebecca Adlington and Jenson Button.

Others who came close: Rebecca Adlington (6), Jenson Button (6), Alistair Brownlee (5), Keri-Anne Payne (5).

Yawn. It's not a sexist decision, it's only sexist to think the lack of women is any different to a lack of footballers or rugby players.
