Tried to embed...didn't work.

Anyway...CLAP, CLAP, CLAP. This guy is right on the money. Gamers prefer glossy trimmings than core gameplay. It's sad but thank god we still have some developers who concentrate on what matters.

I think Jaffe always comes across as a bit of a twat.

Realized this ages ago, but fun to hear a designer saying it.

I used to be able to play Wolfenstein multiplayer again and again just for lols, but now there is an expectation to have some form of meta game or unlock system.

Gamers  levelling and loot.

Gamers love having a bigger number than other gamers. That's a fact as old as gaming itself.

That was a bit of a Captain Obvious moment there, Jaffe is of course right...years after everyone else thought about it.

Also, he does usually make a complete ballsack of himself.

It's the numbers. Giving achivements numbers is, I think, the single worst thing that Microsoft ever brought to gaming.

Personalli, I blame Midway. The invented the High Score back in 1976.

At least those were part of The Game, as opposed to The Game Of Buying More Games.

This is one of my main problems with MW2, the drip drip drip, of feeding you tiny rewards and new items, really distracts from the (somewhat average IMO) rest of the multiplayer, which should be showcased.

I expected him to be older.

He makes some interesting points there for sure.

It's a similar sort of game, if you think about it. This was the Game Of Inserting More 10p Coins Into Our Machine.

I'd rather be paying 10p than £40.

Stats, beyond XP put me to sleep.

For example I like it in COD. Not enough to keep me playing where other games don't but it's nice leveling up, but stuff like Halo's huge number of online stats just bore me for the most part.

The difference is between having a single stupid number to represent all your gaming stuff and high scores limited to each game.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

So just ignore gamerscores. Never look at them, never think about them, just leave it to the hardcore nutters to ratchet theirs up with rented kids games and licenced pap. Who cares?

Because a meta system like gamerscore ends up affected (read 'dumbing down') games to give out easy achievements to get more sales.

Can you give me an example of a not-shitty game that's done this?
